I recorded just 1.3mm today. That will make no difference to the drought. Hopefully, we might see something a little more substantial during the week.

Incredible goings-on here in Edinburgh.

Until Friday, the whole of Edinburgh was in an official absolute drought with no measurable rain since 20 June.

On Friday, some showers hit the south of Edinburgh the hardest, and produced up to 5.8 mm of rain there. That was enough to not only end the drought in that part of the city, but also make that day the first official rain day of this month there.

On that very same day though, the north of Edinburgh only saw the tail end of those showers. This resulted in 0.4 mm of rain being recorded at Edinburgh Gogarbank which was just enough to end the drought there and no more, but it did end the drought there anyway leaving the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as the only remaining station in Edinburgh to still be in an official drought as just 0.2 mm of rain was recorded there on that day which was not enough to end the drought there.

Then today (Sunday), Edinburgh Gogarbank got a further 0.6 mm from the remnants of Hurricane Chris which in itself, would still have been enough to end the drought. However, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has got nothing at all from that system.

This means that whilst the drought in the rest of Edinburgh ended on Friday on its 23rd day, the drought at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is still ongoing even yet, and now looks set to go into its 26th day.

It is really remarkable how that is going on and the fact of the matter is that if there is still no official end to the drought at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh on Monday morning from that same system, we might then be waiting for quite a long time for the drought to officially end there as the outlook for the week ahead is more showery, and that is always a hit and miss affair.

As a further update, I can now confirm that the official absolute drought at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh is now over as 0.6 mm of rain has now fallen there during the early part of this morning. That isn't enough to make today an official rain day there, but it is enough to end the official absolute drought there in its 26th day.

That in turn means that I can now finally declare Edinburgh as a drought-free zone as the drought in the rest of Edinburgh had already ended last Friday. That has been further emphasised this morning by the fact that a further 0.8 mm of rain has fallen at Edinburgh Gogarbank during this morning so far as at 6am.

Having said that though, the amounts of rain involved here are still very small and because of that, I'm not convinced that this will be enough to properly replenish the parched grasslands and gardens in this part of the world. Furthermore, the outlook in this part of the world is still a fairly dry one and so, this drought which has just ended might not necessarily end up being the last one which we see during this summer.

Another splendid evening here (26C and sunny) and still no rain since May and the 2 week outlook is dry with the models failing miserably again.

Hopefully we'll reach September without any rain!

Still not a single spot of rain despite the forecast for thundery rain yesterday evening. It did get gusty and cloudy as if it might materialise but it passed as quickly as it came!  The last measurable rain was 30th May but apart from that, May was very dry.

Drought largely over here after 25 days with no rain at all, there was more than 34mm yesterday evening.

While very heavy at times it was not continuous and had chance to soak in hopefully.

Grass already looks greener as wilted green bits have perked up.

The irony of it raining all day in the first time in a month and to then wake up the next morning to a hosepipe ban coming in on the 5th August! Of course Thirlmere and Haweswater are being emptied by the folk down Manchester way and I believe this part of Cumbria will be unaffected as our local boreholes are in good shape.

Yes, the hosepipe ban announcement is the nail in the coffin for this summer. Why do they do this to us?

A bit of a Friday replay here. A glancing blow from some heavy thundery showers in the evening, but this morning apart from a few puddles here and there it's back to normal.

We had some decent rainfall here - a good three to four hours with two periods of very heavy rain, one of which was torrential and accompanied by thunder and lightning. There are still puddles about and I'm hoping that everything got a good soak because it looks to be dry again for the foreseeable.

Looking at contributions from others around Leeds I think we got lucky here.
