Well each to their own I suppose but the plants and animals are desperate for some rain. To me the dying brown vegetation and trees losing leaves in July is not a good sight. I'm also sick of having to water the garden everyday.

Even one of my cats sat outside in the rain for an hour on Monday!

Big blob of useful steady rain now over Kent and East Sussex; line of thunderstorms approaching from the west overnight; what is it about the West Sussex area and especially the coast that makes any precipitation vanish at the county border? 51 days and counting of absolute drought.

Met Office app is also now showing heavy rain here at 1700 hours.  That will be the first since May 30th and although it will be a shame to break such a long run, I really would welcome it just to dampen things down!  Friday evening has become my spot for giving the borders their weekly drenching, so I may be saved that task!

I remember the days when we had a drought. Distant memory now! I thought I'd appreciate rain more.

I don't.

We had some moderate rain earlier but it was only brief. A few spots in the air now.

The radar is showing a band of rain coming from the West, then splitting in two at the Pennines leaving a clear path in the middle.  Guess who lives in that middle bit?!!!

The drought's well and truly broken here - 3mm of rain, puddles, the lot. Hurrah!

(And when it started raining, the smell of petrichor was about as strong as I've ever known it.)

Still zip here despite my weather app (not TWO) confidently predicting several hours of 90% chance of rain this afternoon. Looking at the radar I think our drought will live to fight another day!

Yes, still dry here and the stuff to the east is moving away now

The front coming down from the nw though will hopefully peter out so our chance of the record will remain

........ and I’m still waiting!

Not a sniff!  Oh wait, I did get a sniff but that was all I got, petrichor, no physical wet stuff though!   I just find it hard to believe we keep missing it.  I hope I’m not the only one still in drought tomorrow because I’ll find that pretty lonely!  And it means I’ll have to water the garden after all.

Ha!  We had rain and even a rainbow!  A very poor effort though and just  enough to wet the ground and break my absolute drought record but it’s done absolutely nothing else!  As for my garden, it wet the leaves but not the soil underneath, so I will be watering the borders in the morning after all.  Oh and the lawns look a brighter shade of yellow.

Not a drop yet here in Slough though the rain band isn’t far away. Will we make it to midnight and 47 days of absolute drought? There’s a dampness in the air for sure first time in ages.
