First of all, this shows the variation in the rainfall totals across Edinburgh as a whole quite well, as my own records show the totals so far this month as at 8am this morning to be 38.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and only 33.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This is to be expected of course, due to the fact that there were some thunderstorms around (as reported by Noodle Doodle on another thread at the time when they happened) during this month which affected the south of Edinburgh in particular, but which largely missed the north of Edinburgh where I am. This is probably what would account for the total at Swanston being higher than what it is for either Edinburgh Gogarbank or the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, those totals are slightly below the 1981-2010 April average for each of those respective stations. As for Swanston, I have been trying to find out what the actual 1981-2010 averages are for there but without any great success. When I looked that up on the Met Office's climatic averages page, it first of all placed me in Fairmilehead as Swanston doesn't appear to be on that database and since Fairmilehead is obviously the closest location to there which is. When I then actually got those averages, these ended up being the 1981-2010 averages for Edinburgh Gogarbank which is shown to be the closest climatic station to Fairmilehead according to the Met Office's own official records.

That of course, is one of my own three local stations, so I know what the 1981-2010 averages are for there. As it turns out, this month's figure for Swanston is just above the 1981-2010 April average for Edinburgh Gogarbank but very close to that average whilst the figures for Edinburgh Gogarbank itself and the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are also fairly close to that respective station's 1981-2010 April average.

When you therefore tie all that information together, we can see that this just confirms even more, the fact that the rainfall totals across Edinburgh as a whole during this month can really be reported as being around average which is what I reported on my last post on this thread.

Rainfall here for April to date is 9.4mm.  No wonder the garden is looking thirsty.

Now that we have just entered another new month, I can now confirm that the final total for April comes out as 38.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 33.2 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 83.7% of the 1981-2010 average for that station whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 82.0% of its 1981-2010 average rainfall during April.

Overall, this shows that April was slightly drier than average at both of those stations in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank had 8 official rain days during April and this shows that it was also very slightly drier than average there overall in terms of the number of official rain days since that amounts to 81.6% of the 1981-2010 average. However, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh had 9 official rain days during April with that amounting to 102.3% of the 1981-2010 average, thus making April a very slightly wetter than average month there overall in terms of the number of official rain days.

I can also confirm that the total for this spring so far as at midnight going into Monday 1 May 2019 was 119.0 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 110.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, this is 78.8% of the 1981-2010 average whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 78.4% of its 1981-2010 average during this spring so far as at midnight going into Monday 1 May 2019.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 23 official rain days during this spring so far as at midnight going into 1 May 2019 which is 70.0% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has also had 23 official rain days during this spring so far as at midnight going into 1 May 2019, but that is 81.3% of the 1981-2010 average.

Finally, I can also confirm that during 2019 so far, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had a total of 149.8 mm of rain as at midnight going into 1 May 2019 which is 19.9% of the 1981-2010 average, whilst the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had a total of 141.4 mm of rain during 2019 so far as at midnight going into 1 May 2019, which is 20.1% of the 1981-2010 average.

In addition to that, Edinburgh Gogarbank has had 34 official rain days so far during 2019 as at midnight going into 1 May 2019 which is 24.8% of the 1981-2010 average whereas the botanic gardens in Edinburgh has had 31 official rain days during 2019 so far at at midnight going into 1 May 2019 which is 25.0% of the 1981-2010 average.
