March was a month of two halves with a very wet first half of the month which resulted in that month being wetter than average overall, despite the fact that the second half of that same month was very dry, especially towards the end of the month.

For the next month which has just started, we are expected to go into a more unsettled spell of weather once again although the latest indications from the models seem to point towards this month being drier than average overall, along with every other recent month with the exception of March.

Of course, it could all turn out differently from that but whatever way it all turns out, this is the very place to post those totals for your area during this month as they are updated.

In the end, a total of 6.8 mm of rain fell during yesterday Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 6.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes yesterday the wettest day of this month so far at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and at that time, the wettest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

In addition to that, a total of 8.8 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning along with 5.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which already makes today the wettest day of this month so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

For Edinburgh Gogarbank, that takes the total for this month so far to 18.6 mm, the total for this spring so far to 99.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 129.8 mm as at 8am this morning.

For the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, that takes the total for this month so far to 14.6 mm, the total for this spring so far to 92.0 mm and the total for this year so far to 122.8 mm as at 8am this morning.

So far, this is another very wet start to yet another month within what continues to be a rather wet and soggy spring so far despite that very dry second half of March which we had.

If there is any consolation though, this should at least help towards quelling any lingering concerns about any possible water shortages and/or hosepipe bans if we then go on to get a decent summer this year.

Here in Edinburgh, our rainfall totals for this month remain stuck at 26.6 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 22.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh as at 11am this morning with no recorded rainfall at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank since 7 April 2019.

The latest model output points towards a wetter and more unsettled outlook for next week but since that isn't being forecast to last all that long at the moment, this might not be enough in the end for this month to end up being any wetter than average overall, even though we are currently in our driest month of the year on average according to the 1981-2010 averages.
