Actually, it's a win-win situation. Either win the CET comp or get snow!
(Sods law I'll lose the CET comp and the snow will avoid Berkshire and fall heavily on Folkestone and St. Helens)

Now -0.83C anomaly for the rest of the month would be enough to secure the annual CET record.

At what point do we say it's in the bag? I'd say we're pretty close. 11C for the year seems unlike now though.

Looking good for you Darren at the moment ..can these 'newly touted intriguing signals' towards the end of the year present themselves and bring down the CET sub 4c in those last few days ?

3.5C here which is still +0.2C, however my December average is still skewed by exceptional 2010 at -0.4C

Interestingly according to my calculations the Hadley CET figures have been way too high in recent days. Currently I estimate the CET to be at 4.5C and it will fall a bit further over the next few days.

From Wednesday onwards it turns much milder than it has been since the first day of the month. There may be a bit of a blip next Saturday but otherwise it looks like we may go into a period of really very mild weather indeed.

By the 27th the CET could be as high as 5.58C. So the 11C CET annual figure is not out of the question yet.

GW - Regardig hte CET differences. Could it be that they have corrected their appaently low reading for the 1st and 2nd, rather than errors over the last week?

It just looks as if someting odd happened on ar about the 4th.

http://www.metoffice.gov.uk/hadobs/hadcet/cet_info_mean.html  it gives a handy bit of info:

"The highest annual mean CET ever recorded was 10.82, which is 1.35 higher than normal. To beat this record the
anomaly must be higher than -0.97 for the remainder of this year"

Based on the predicted weather, the next 7 days will have a positive anomaly, possibly enough to drag December to date in to positive anomaly territory overall - to the point where the last ten days would need to be 2-3C below average to avoid setting the new record. The further we go through December without a really cold spell, the more likely it looks that 2014 will be the warmest CET year on record, and potentially by quite a margin!
