Bone dry and pretty much unbroken sunshine to the south of the county. Some fair weather clouds earlier and we managed 27.5C. - not a hint of anything wet this way. 

The ground was bone dry again 10 minutes after the rain stopped. The local weather stations don't appear to have registered anything so the official drought continues...

Here in this relative desert which is the Borders though, today's maximum temperature at Charterhall (not a part of that relative desert thanks to recent rainfall) was 20.01°C thus ensuring that there continues to be at least one 20+°C somewhere in these reports. This is exactly what I said would happen in my post on this thread from this morning, despite the forecasts telling us otherwise.

It has been another windy day though with winds at Gogarbank gusting up to around 39 mph from the west.

Currently around 14°C here in Hawick with a much cooler feel than of late despite the continued sunshine.

Likewise here, we had a 5 or 10 min shower naturally just before you did, which for a couple of mins was vaguely decent rain, but nothing on the gauge. It's actually just started a few drops again but dry within seconds this time as opposed to 10 mins or so last time.

Managed to get to 27c here earlier, 21.8c now so time to take the crazy cocker out for a walk.

Yes, another night where a few local weather stations recorded an air frost.

Thorney Island leading the way today. Felt fresher this morning but still very warm in the sun. A very clear blue sky today after the cold front swept the dust and smoke and other murk away. 24.7C currently.

Managed 26C so far but currently 25.5C

Looking at some of the local dew points and they are very low. Gosport fleetlands dp only 4.6C

Really doesn't feel this warm thanks to the low dew points. 

Last night was rather chilly for this time of the year and even today, it has actually felt a bit too cool to be sitting in my Mum's garden for any length of time.

There has been the usual quota of cloud cover and sunshine but unlike on other recent days, there are also a number of occasional showers coming through at times which are still fairly brief, but often fairly heavy (enough to remind me what a wet ground actually looked like as that was something which I hadn't seen for quite a long time).

This isn't going to be anything like enough to ward off SEPA's warning about this area being upgraded to significant water scarcity status if there isn't any significant rainfall here in the next week, but every little bit is at least better than nothing at all.

Today isn't as windy as it has been, but there is still a cool breeze with a temperature of only around 16°C here in Hawick which isn't even the least bit warm for this time of the year any more.

Warmer and sunny+breezy again now it is still very dry more so than last year at this time as in July 2025 we had some more serious showers.

However the year total for 2026 is nearly 100mm higher than last year so crops have actually done far better loads of hay and silage plus barley and wheat nearby look really good with masses of straw.

No matter what media is saying a fairly normal dry summer spell here with only one 'hot' day that reached 30C.

We usually need to let cows have hay if they want it for a month or so and they are only moderately interested as yet.

Very different to the south and west where it has been very dry and very hot .Longest run of 30c plus days up till now  I have ever known and I remember 76 . Stil got August to go .

Forage crops were much better though than last year so there is more stocks Cereals are mixed with the heat having killed some off rather than ripening. not a lot of straw either 

It has been a very south and west based hot summer although I have seen pics of N.Wales and it looks like Death Valley.so the dry is quite widespread.

In addition to that, Jerry even said in his comment about a possible heatwave 5 and 6 in the MO thread that we appeared to be into autumn here so when you take all of that into consideration, you would think that was surely a day which didn't deserve to even come close to seeing a 20+°C maximum being recorded at any of the major weather stations in Edinburgh and the Borders.

Yet in spite of all of that though, today's maximum temperatures in Edinburgh and the Borders was 19.43°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19°C at Edinburgh Airport, 20.16°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, 19.3°C at Swanston in the south of Edinburgh and 19.1°C at Charterhall.

This shows that yet another 20+°C maximum has been recorded in Edinburgh but how on Earth that has still happened despite everything which I have said in the first two paragraphs of this report is completely beyond me so if anyone on this forum can elaborate on how that has happened, I would be very grateful for that (here in Hawick, I don't think that today's temperatures got above around 16°C).

This is the strongest evidence yet that regardless of the actual conditions and current synoptic situation, there is always going to be at least one 20+°C maximum in these reports, and that is what I have saying all along just lately.

Here in Hawick, it's currently around 12°C according to my Apple Watch.

No 20+°C maximum today in this report but tomorrow is forecast to be a bit warmer and that is when I am expecting our first 20+°C maximum of this month to be recorded.

Today started off mostly cloudy and there was a period of showery rain for a while, but the clouds have now cleared away to leave us with a mostly sunny evening.
