The overnight low here was 21.4C making it the highest of the heatwave so far. Also, my glasses steamed up this morning when I left the a/c, so it more humid than yesterday.

Somewhere like Tibenham is the place to watch, I suspect.

It doesn’t feel any cooler here at all. Why? Because it’s not. The forecast high today is 29c, yet it’s already 27c here and it’s not even 9am. Something is going to need to happen for us not to vastly exceed the MetO high in the next couple of hours

29.3C here at 9am. iPhone app says 27 now with a high of 32. Met Office says 29 now with a high of 34. BBC reckons 27 at 10am with a high of 33. I reckon we might reach 35 again. Local PWS has recorded highs of 36.4 on Wednesday and 35.6 yesterday.

29.4, dew 24.1 - it feels sweltering outside, and it's warming up much faster than indoors (my windows are all closed except one, which has a vent hose dangling out of it!)

I wasn't going to take my dog for a walk today, instead we stood on the pavement outside the house for 10 minutes - means he still gets to see a bit of the outside world, but without all that effort to walk. The pavement is shaded by the large viburnum shrubs in my front garden. It was 27 when we walked out the front door, 29 when we went back in!

EDIT: Jumped straight to 29.6 as I was typing this post!

And it's now hit 30. It'll almost certainly exceed 35 today, only the 3rd time in all the 43 years I've lived here. (In 76 it got to 31 apparently!)

Regarding the Yeoviton debacle, it might be worth keeping an eye on the Westonzoyland manual site, which should report yesterday's max in a day or two.

Currently the data is out as far as 0900Z on Wednesday, which gives a max for Tuesday of 32.5C. Yeovilton hit 32.7 that day and Westonzoyland does seem generally cooler than Yeovilton but could still have beaten Merryfield.

There's also Marnhull, which got within 0.2C (32.3) of Yeovilton on Monday, when Yeovilton was the UK's hottest.

Data is on the WOW site.

The MetO raw has 33C here at 10AM, 36C at 1PM (and an overall max of 37).

At 10AM it's 32.0, dew 23.8 - so not far off!

I can't see the temps exceeding yesterday as you suggest. Which for me is great. That and the day before were exceptional and unpleasant, dangerous even, as some of the hospitals found out. Soton being just one.
