Driving from Nottingham to Edinburgh and it's sunny! Buffeting winds east of the Pennines. Glad it's not tomorrow in storm Bram! Edinburgh is in both a wind and a rain warning for tomorrow. That's after 20mm of rain on 1st and yesterday.....we are up to 40mm+ in December already

November's rain was 200% of normal too!

As you have said, there is some decent sunshine at times but even with that, there's still the odd shower coming through at times as well.

In addition to that, it's also not even the least bit cold with the temperature currently at around 9°C here in Edinburgh as this so-called "winter" continues to be a completely snowless non-event up until now with just the one air frost so far.🥵

After a genuinely warm-feeling day yesterday (sitting out in the garden at lunchtime - I didn't need a coat), we're having a typical July night tonight... 12.7, just a light breeze from the SW.

Yesterday's high was 14.5 and the overnight low so far is 12.7.

Storm Bram has now arrived here in Edinburgh and it's yet another wet and miserable start to yet another day here in Edinburgh, in that complete non-event which is this so-called "winter".

Currently around 8°C here in Edinburgh as our frost-free (and snow-free) horror show goes on.🥵

Gloomy, possibly a day with the lights on as the natural light levels are pretty dim, It's also soggy and showery with a good windy day ahead, you can hear it thrumming away over the chimney stack and the trees are having a good jig about. 12.3c.

The GFS output is suggesting persistent rain and 49 mph southerly gusts for my location right now, but it's actually quite calm (unusual for that particular wind direction) and fairly dry (just slightly damp) but rather overcast all made the current 13 C felt mild when I rode on my bike to a local hearing aid clinic.

The earlier rain cleared away to leave us with mostly cloudy skies and only the odd sunny interval with a few bits and pieces of showery rain still around at times.

As far as the temperature is concerned though, this is just getting absolutely ridiculous now as the temperature here in Edinburgh is now up to an incredible 16°C and even if that complete non-event which is this so-called "winter" hadn't already gone completely down the toilet pan, it certainly has now.🥵

With that, there's even a chance that today could actually go down as our warmest December day on record here in Edinburgh and that just shows how bad the situation has become, and just how ridiculous  that is now.🥵

Today was quite calm for most of the day but the wind has now picked up quite a lot in the last few hours, with gusts of up to around 59 mph from the south at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Currently around 15°C with today now looking likely to go down as our warmest December day on record here in Edinburgh.

Apart from the high temperature the sudden onset of the storm in the last hour was pretty dramatic with a sudden gust of 58mph, a very noisy arrival!

It's now raining here in Edinburgh once again and it's still very windy though not quite as windy as it was a couple of hours ago.

Today's maximum temperature which is likely to confirm today as being our warmest December day on record here in Edinburgh has been officially confirmed as 16.6°C, the same temperature which was quoted on the reddit post which I referred to on the high temperature thread. That should actually come as no surprise as that temperature was quoted at the time from the Met Office and since they always have much more access to that data than the rest of us, they would already have known that to be the maximum temperature before that was even confirmed by the raw BUFR/SYNOP data.

As I write, the temperature has now dropped back a bit, but only to around 11°C here in Edinburgh, so that nightmare scenario of double figures winter temperatures goes on along with our frost-free horror show.

11.8C. Clear spells and moderate SW breeze.

4 power outages yesterday so not current conditions and hope no repeats today.

And it wasn't notably windy here either. 'Underground' faults say the supplier.
