LOL, how very true.  I guess if ‘we’ excludes everywhere south of a line from The Severn Estuary to The Wash it might perhaps qualify?

It looks as if my gas and elec bills will be the lowest for several years, once you strip out the ever increasing standing charge, so there is a financial benefit to mild weather. I'd still like to see a proper cold spell lasting, say, 2 or 3 weeks, though.

You know you're getting long in the tooth if you're surprised to learn we've just had a "cold" and "wintry spell" of weather.

I'm glad things are turning milder now. The possibility of the low or even mid teens next week fills me with hope that spring is on the way.

Adore autumn.

Will there be a ‘winter’ ratings thread. I’m ready to put negative numbers. Utterly hideous winter with no redeeming features.

I also like Autumn as per Saint. As the excitement of ‘potential snow’ and autumn colours set in. Ironically I’ve seen more snow falling in Autumn than the two previous winters combined. Utterly shambolic disgrace of a climate. Sick of it.

I struggle to find any redeeming things about winter in general nowadays. I'd imagine it's partly a mix of how the character of the season has changed, but also how my own views on the weather have changed. A bit of snow is interesting from a meteorological perspective, sure, but I don't have that personal desire for it anymore. In many ways, I'm glad that winters are becoming milder - I sure as hell wouldn't want this country to have to endure another 62-63 or 46-47 again. White Christmases don't really interest me either and I've never understood the media or public obsession with getting one. Snow on Christmas Day is no different to getting it on 1st February, as far as I'm concerned. I'm more looking forward to the year when we see 20°C on Christmas Day, rather than an ice day.

In terms of the seasons, I love spring and summer. In fact, my favourite time of year is probably late spring to early summer (May-June). I just love the long days, the fresh growth and knowing that there are a good four or five months of pleasantly warm weather to look forward to. I don't mind autumn either, especially during the peak of the leaf change. It's after that though (early November onwards) that I find to be the most difficult time of year.

'Spring', to me, and at least until the end of April, is just an extention of winter, but with longer daylight hours that just makes you have to look at the desolate, leafless nothingness for much longer. Like Bolty, I do like that May/June period but after the solstice, the humidity and high dewpoints really starts to kick in, making the rest of the summer more of an endurance test than a pleasing one.

We did have a few cold days that stopped it being a 10. Also the amount of rainfall since Devonian compared the UK to 1980s Cambodia has spoilt it. So I’ve marked it down a point for each aspect. The next week looks great in terms of temperatures. Mid teens here by mid next week to sign off the most wretched season on the calendar in style. Good riddance. The best two seasons now to come

Of course NYC is about to get one of the most memorable nor’easters. Some models going for 20ins and blizzards. Meanwhile I’ll just have to look back fondly at the sleet we managed in November.

A high of 6.9°C here today with a combination of drizzle and more recently heavy rain. The modelled mild westerlies can’t come soon enough.

About as un-wintry as it can get here: 18C, 13C dewpoint, warm sun and that late-spring level of humidity. A fitting end to an utterly crud winter.

Winter is truly dead. The earlier first blooms of daffodils are dying off, but the main blooms are in full bloom. Cherry plum blossom is everywhere, magnolia are beginning to bloom, alder is flowering, and daisies are abundant*.

* Only on ground that isn't waterlogged, however with plenty of sunshine in the forecast and only a little rain, any waterlogged grass should now start to dry.

Definitely feeling more springlike with temperatures into double fingers over the last few days and the daffodils will soon begin to bloom. The deep deep snow earlier last month is a distant memory with the promise of spring warmth hopefully not far round the corner.

Was great to see the roads and paths dry yesterday (before the rain arrived once again in the evening) and again this evening, and for what seemed like the first time in many months. Really makes a difference to the overall look of things and does give one the sense that this long, grim, dank winter is thankfully on the way out.

This winter has been a good winter with all the usual weather types expected of the season. There's been plenty of frosts and chilly cold days, some sunny, some wet and a few snowy, with some on the ground for more than 48 hours, at least in this part of Lincolnshire. Although, it would be good to be a little drier for a time as the drains, dykes, ditches and rivers here are very full. The farmers would probably appreciate it being a bit drier too, as the fields are very muddy. Which is looking promising this week now that spring is springing!

Not really a winter at all, more like a continuation of Autumn. A lot of rain (the chalk aquifers are brimming over), very few wholly sunny days before more cloud spilled in, and just a smidgeon of snow after Christmas. There's been very little variation in temperature with daytime maxes mostly around 10C and only a few frosts early on. At least that allows economy in the heating; I don't think there's been a day when I've needed more than a few hours each morning and evening.

It was quite a remarkable winter here for a couple of reasons. The more recent reason was of course the unprecedented sunless spell of just over 3 weeks and the other was the prolonged and exceptionally snowy start to the year. The latter was definitely more interesting than the former!
