I'm having a moan too. Copious snow north of the Central Belt. Snow in N. Ireland. Snow cover down the East Coast from Northumberland to Norfolk. Snow cover in parts of Wales and the moors of the SW. Thin snowcover even in the south Midlands and Home Counties!

Not a flake all winter here in Edinburgh and all I see coming this week is wet stuff, looks very marginal before the Atlantic steams back in

What a waste of a potential cold spell!

Rant over, you never know, I might get a surprise mid week?

A lot of people on here have seen the recent dry weather as a welcome break from the wet weather which came before then, but I take the complete opposite view from that.

Last year brought us almost constant high pressure with one high pressure after another, to the point where I became sick to the back teeth of always seeing that, so the wet weather in the autumn and the first few weeks of December brought a very welcome break from that as far as I'm concerned. As 2025 drew to a close though, that brought us yet more high pressure and it's been virtually constantly dry here ever since.

I'm sick to the back teeth of seeing constantly dry weather here (this isn't the Sahara Desert after all), so could someone please change the record?

Another kick to the shins today - the modelling has been spot on and the cold front moving SE'wards has, of course, developed a 40-mile wide split as it moves over my area, effortlessly denying me any snow - while places such as south Essex and Surrey enjoy some. Pah.

The MetO raw now shows one more pleasant cold day - tomorrow - before the usual gunk returns, a motley procession of 5/8/6/7/10 highs over the following days, four out of five days bringing rain (and the other being overcast throughout). Dee-lightful!

I've given up hope on this spell now. The automated forecasts from BBC and Met Office show just rain from here on in for MBY. After the farce of this morning, I don't anticipate any further snow, just the depressing thaw of the existing lying snow from Sunday night.

The odds are that Goretti either brings us just rain or the ppn misses us altogether

Sunday's front looks like it will bring just rain here, as the cold air doesn't far enough west

It would be a typical 'devil farts in my face' bulltulipevent for here

Yet again, another so called winter cold spell draws to a close here in West Oxfordshire. It has been a complete bust for me, barely a flake of snow has fallen, and the one flurry we did have was completely unforecast last week.

I know it's nigh on impossible to get decent snow where I live, but I would have hoped to see at least "some" lying snow at some point over the last 7 to 10 days, but alas, not to be as always.

I personally am looking forward to the warm up to double figure temperatures, although the Atlantic onslaught that comes with it will be thoroughly miserable.

I really do hate winter with a passion, cold weather is so rare, and hardly ever brings snow.

The only hope is that I still have time for some meaningful snowfall, but I will eat my hat if we get anything here!

This winter is fast becoming the same as all the others in the last 20 years, and likely to be a big fat 0 out of 10 AGAIN!

One thing we noticed yesterday when we came out of the cinema at 4:45, was just how light it was. Once you get past the new year, the rest of this miserable season flies by. I can see the Spring appearing over the horizon and it can’t come soon enough

I love the dark nights of November & December. Instils this [probably primeval] desire to just cosy-in and hunker-down.

But then, I also love the long summer evenings, too.

In short, I love the contrast of the seasons. I just wish the contrasts were much more stark!

It can do one - let’s get the warmer, sunny evenings in ASAP 👍

I'm not sure why I still like cold and snow so much, as now I'm in my seventies I find that cold weather seems to make me feel very tired. I'm not sure if the cold weather itself is to blame, or whether it's how dry the central heating makes the air inside the house.

I think this winter may already be the most interesting since 2018 for model watchers hoping for cold and snow, and we still have half the winter to go.

I lock the village church at 4pm and yesterday the nave was lit by a dramatically bright red sunset.  Encouraging.

I have discounted any snow for January now, but still hope February will bring us some surprises.

We were down your way yesterday, Wendy. We met up with my brother for lunch at Sutterton - at the Thatched Cottage Hotel. He lives in Norwich, so sort of midway. Nice place and good lunch - though the full menu is a bit pricey by Lincolnshire standards. Very agreeable staff. You might like to put it on your TO DO list.

The reality of this winter is odd. It feels like we're on a belting batting pitch but are struggling to hit the ball off the square. I know it's been a different picture in the north (or more correctly parts of it) but down here it has been a very underwhelming experience to date.

Apart from one day where it maxed around 10c, temps have never really recovered from the chilly spell.

Were also only halfway through winter, with a cold - possibly very cold - spell looking likely in a week or so.

I've suffered through worse winters.
