Well after 72 consecutive days with a daily max over 20c, what I imagine is probably a record here and certainly is in the last 14 years I have data recorded, is over. 

Who knows what the 1995/1976 summers had, or any other years. I've tried to find out via Google but no joy, I know the Melbourne record (given my wife is from there) is 99 days, so I think 72 is pretty good going for a rural location in the UK.

The sun only came out at 4pm and we maxed at 19.6c, probably half an hour earlier and 20c would have been reached.

Heavily dull all day here as well but max still reached 18.8c. Thankfully, it didn't feel as humid as recently. Hoping this anti-cyclonic gloom will continue as long as that high sticks around.

Breezy from the N/NE 

Feeling notably cold... Definitely regretting not packing a jumper to work. 

You're a fair bit older than me, which may make a difference, but I've found it rather enjoyable. The breeze has cleared the last of the hot air from the house and it's cooled the brickwork too, so there's less of a "radiating oven" effect at night. I've not had to wear a jumper in many years, and live in polo shirts. All I need in winter (or when it's raining) is a light jacket, and even yesterday walking my puppy by the beach, with the wind driving in, I didn't need a coat - the sea is still 20C, so the wind was warm. 

That said the dewpoint isn't low here - even though it felt a bit fresher yesterday it was still hovering in the low teens, as it is now. 

It's currently breezy, overcast and warm, as the recent nights have been. 16.0, dew 14.0, the overnight low so far being 15.7. Yesterday's high was a very pleasant 20.3, and it's probably why I had the beach and surrounding country park pretty much to myself: the tourists were staying in their caravans!

I hadn't realised how long the run was - and yes, it's 73 days here (yesterday just scraping in with a 20.3 max). That's the trouble with a warm June, it means you're relying on days being more than 3 degrees below average in July and August and that's rare these days! Going 3 degrees above on the other hand...

EDIT: No 1995 data for my nearest station, but the longest stretch of 20s and above for my local station, Brogdale, in 1976 was only 30 days. Shockingly the 1st August 1976 had a high of only 16.6! This year it's 47 days (so far), spoiled by a 19.8 on the 2nd July.

Yes using my data we had never had a July with all 20s before so that is obviously going to kill it.

We certainly start from a pretty low base temp, our low last night was 9.7c, so 6 degrees below yours, although maybe the max can be tempered by the sea breezes for you.

Currently 12.8c, a few breaks in the clouds so brighter than yesterday.

Instead of that, we have another mostly cloudy start to the day but unlike in other recent days, there is the odd break in that cloud which is already allowing us to see the odd glimpse of the Sun at times, and I'm sure that the Sun will probably break through a lot more as the day wears on.

That said, last night was our coolest night of this month so far with an overnight minimum temperature of just 8.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, the temperature has recovered slightly to around 13°C here in Edinburgh

The Sun eventually came out for a while today, but this evening has become cloudier once again which means that as at 6:40pm BST (17:40 UTC) this evening, a total of just 2.8 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, this means that a total of only at least another 18.1 hours of sunshine need to be recorded between now and the end of this month in order for this month to go as being sunnier than average here.

Today was also a little bit warmer than the last couple of days and today's maximum temperature was 19.1°C.

I presume it was clear earlier, given the low temp, but now mostly cloudy and 10.4c

Today is another day in which I was expecting a bright and sunny start to it, only to find that the day is actually starting on a dull and overcast note and although it still appears to be as bone dry as per usual, the rain radar maps are showing that there is some light rain and drizzle in the vicinity which wasn't something which I can recall actually being forecast for today.

As a result of that cloud cover though, last night was nowhere near as cold as it was forecast to be (some forecasts were even going for a possible ground frost in the odd rural area) and it was actually slightly milder than the previous night with an overnight minimum temperature of 11.3°C (we didn't even get down to single figures last night).

Yes John, surprised that we have light showers here now! It's mostly cloudy and cool at 13 C.

However, I can see clearer sky on the northern horizon so using your current theory, we'll see sun at some point!

Last night was the coolest and the first sub-10C one here since June 8th. Low of 8.3C in my back garden. Definitely felt like early autumn on my short pre-work morning walk.   

Cloud came in after midnight and our low was 5.6C but just over the hill in a dip got down to 2.8C

More in the way of blue sky has appeared throughout the course of this morning and early afternoon with the Sun making an occasional appearance, but the Sun has never really broken through all that convincingly and there continues to be a lot of cloud around.

As a result, the temperature here in Edinburgh is currently only around 17°C
