Misty, cool, calm. There's a red glow to the ENE from the (hidden) rising sun. It's another day with condensation on the outside of the windows, showing the temperature's dropped sharply recently.

6.4, dew 5.0, which is the low so far.

I'm looking to northern France and wondering if the showery stuff now forming will make it across to parched Dorset. And other parts of southern England too.

What a long dry spell here.

Likewise in Berkshire, looks like there's a chance. If we miss the showers in the next few days then going by the 6z the 21st May is our next likely chance of rain. That would be 31 days since the last measurable rain, a record for my PWS in 14 years.

Today's max looks like being 24.6c, a perfect day to be jet-washing the patio, it dried in minutes.

Some good cauliflower cumulus to the north of here, over the Downs, though the MetO radar is showing showers further north again , over N Hampshire. Something vaguely disturbed to the south as well, again showing up on the MetO radar as just leaving France, predicted to arrive here about 7pm but getting weaker all the time.

Indeed as so often is the case the French imports lose their mojo and these current ones are doing just that.

The 21st it is then for a pattern change. Fingers crossed.

My neighbour has been jet washing too.

No visible cauliflowers here to the north, south east or west though.

Wild carrot I sowed last autumn doing well and looks fantastic in a 'wild' border.

Wessex Water doing well out of me this spring. I hope they invest it wisely. I won't count on it though.

Here in Edinburgh, there's a lot more in the way of cloud around so today hasn't been as sunny as of late with a total of just 5.4 hours of sunshine being recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

However, there has still been some decent sunshine at times and today is still warm with a maximum temperature of 21.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

As I write though, the temperature here in Edinburgh has dropped back to around 13°C.

There was 10 seconds of rain last night, the big convective sort of raindrops that make a racket. And that was that... back to clear skies and calm conditions this morning.

10.4, dew 8.8 (so much for the MetO text forecast of a 14C min!), following a high of 19.1 yesterday (and ditto the 21+ maxes from GFS and MetO raw).

10.4 is also the overnight low so far.

In complete contrast to other recent days, today started off on a dull and overcast note here in Edinburgh but that cloud has now broken up to allow some decent sunny spells at times once again.

However, today is cooler than of late with the wind once again coming in from off the North Sea.

Currently around 16°C here in Edinburgh

Very warm and sunny today - with only the odd puff of wind from the ESE, the sea breeze having gone for the day. The odd bit of cloud but no relief from the blazing sun, really... it's the warmest day of the year so far and really feels it. It's humid, too.

20.4, dew 14.0, the high being 23.1 and last night's low being 10.3.

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed as 17.3°C which is quite a bit cooler than on other recent days.

Furthermore, a lot of easterly muck has once again rolled in from off the North Sea to produce a fairly overcast end to the day which means that we're not even getting to enjoy a nice sunny end to the day such as what we've had recently.

Currently around 12°C here in Edinburgh

A warm night indoors (22C upstairs as of now, even with all the windows open all night) and outside it's much the same as usual: mostly clear skies, no wind. It's 10.9, dew 9.7, and the overnight low was 10.6. Yesterday's high was 23.1, respectable for July or August and the warmest day of the year so far.

The warmth was due to losing the NE'lies from the sea (which is only 12 or 13C), but they'll be back today... it should be a better night's sleep tonight!
