From a high of 27c in Hull my phone app now says 20c - I feel there's an error somewhere even though it has clouded over.
Big heat in May

Summer will be spray.

First, and hopefully last, 32 of the year here.

32.2, dew 22.9.

This is pretty remarkable, really, as temperatures seldom get far into the 30s this close to the coast - normally a sea breeze sets in around the 30 mark, skewing the typical SE'lies NE'ly, but not this time... the steering flow is from the south, soon to veer SSW, and that's completely cancelled the breeze.

It's definitely a day to be indoors, hunkering down away from the heat and, more importantly, the humidity. (The doctor's surgery had the flaw of leaving their door open, so all the heat/humidity just swept right in. On a day like today, you want as little in-out transfer of air as possible. Same goes for my neighbours over the road, with their windows wide open... hope they enjoy the 32C air that'll be wafting inside!)

32.4C at Lakenheath, so the hottest day of the year so far (and probably for good). And 90F finally breached, for the 14th year in a row.

Edit: also 32.4C at Wisley, and 32.5C at Iver the front runner.

32.4 at 1200 UTC at Wisley Automatic and Lakenheath RAF. Other 32s around London and Cambridge but these are the highest I've spotted.

Hit 33.0 here earlier, with the fan in the Davis weather station busily whirring away... a little earlier than forecast by the Met Office, if anything.

The wind, little though there is, is still (just) east of south, and the dewpoint remains between 22 and 23.

Hottest part of the day at this time of year is usually between 3 and 4pm so there's plenty of time for a 35c yet I think.

My guess is that it'll top out at between 34.8c and 35.2c.

33C at London City.

Cloud has returned here in Hants, certainly taken the edge off the feel of the heat.

After a short unexpected shower at 5am, and another at 11:30, the sun is working hard now to recover temps and the current and max is 29.8c

The dewpoint is 22.9c so only a couple of points below the 23.1c max I have recorded here - weirdly that was last September, but likely to go today I reckon.

The cloud hung on for too long here, only allow it to reach 23.3°C this morning. Now cooler and brighter weather is moving in from the west and it's dropped to 18.9°C.

So, so envious of the two posters above. The sun's still beating down, of course, and the heat has reached the inner leaf of the cavity wall, such that the whole wall is effectively a massive warm radiator.

I'm now going into full defensive mode - targetting my portable a/c in one room only, as the rest are now becoming uncomfortably warm... 24 to 29C in the various rooms in the house at the moment, 33.1 / dew 22.6 with a high so far of 33.6.

I feel for those who've left their windows open, they'll now have a house in the mid 30s!

I left my flat this morning at it was 26.8C. I suspect when I get home it will be in excess of 29C. At unpleasant evening awaits. Its such a shame we don't get storms after these plumes, at least the air would mix a bit and the rain would cool things down.

I don't envy you in your flat - I hope you're not on the top floor, and I hope you have two aspects so can at least try for a through-breeze tonight.

Incidentally here, against all the odds, a sea breeze has set up! The temperature's gone down over 2C in the past 15minutes... and now, while I'm typing this,  it's going back up again, as the breeze veers back to the south. Pah, that raised my hopes and dashed them most expertly! (It was 31.3 when I started typing this, now it's 31.7 a couple of minutes later. That sea breeze is potent IF you can get it!)
