Today has been our warmest day of this month so far with a temperature of around 22°C here in Edinburgh.

In addition to that, it rained here on St. Swithin's Day (albeit very late in the day) and then it rained again yesterday, but it hasn't rained today and it is unlikely to do so. From that, we can safely say that the St. Swithin's Day legend for here is a bust for this year once again.

There is still a lot of cloud around and the temperature has now dropped back to around 20°C here in Edinburgh with a rather muggy feel which is much more typical for this time of the year than what we've been used to during this summer so far.

EDIT:

Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank has officially been confirmed as 22.2°C.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

25.1c at Wisley yesterday,  the first 25c of July and we had to wait to the 17th. A shocker shows how rubbish a month it has been.

A good deal of high cloud around this morning, and it's currently feeling very pleasant - I was watching "my" bat flying around first thing, presumably having a last-minute snacking session. Surprisingly it's slightly cooler than yesterday... it won't last!

It's presently 11.9, dew 10.5 and calm (as per usual at this time of day). Yesterday's high was 23.9.

(The bat lives in the Scots Pine in what's now my garden and he/she has been around for at least 6 years now.)

After a very rare day of sunny spells and 22 C yesterday, it's back to normal, damp and cloudy this morning. Spells of moderate rain between 12-6 am. A mild night though with a minimum of 14 C

The dog days are well and truly here. The cloud has broken during the morning and it's already 21.6, with a sultry 17.6 dewpoint making it feel uncomfortable already.

It's going to be a very long time until Sunday!

Warmest day of the year, and it's only early afternoon! (The previous high was 26.4 in June).

It's presently 27.0, dew 16.9.... day one of three of the heatwave here.

EDIT: Looks like it's the SE'ly that's responsible for the rapid rise (peaking at 27.9 so far)... it's obliterated the sea breeze that we would have had otherwise. The rise was so rapid that it overtook the indoor temperatures...

Up to 28.4 now (dew 18.2). The breeze is blowing, the fan in my weather station is whirring away... and my windows are all firmly closed, aside from the one where the air-con hose goes through!

The sun has turned the thick, heavy curtains in the dining room into a large-panel radiator...

EDIT: And showing how much of an effect the wind direction has, a subtle backing again to E'ly rather than ESE'ly means temperatures have fallen back to "just" 26.7. It's all about that sea track, or lack of it!

Still cloudy here with spits and spots again. My digital garden thermometer is showing 20 C though so it's feeling pleasant enough

It's gone so gloomy here, might have to put a lamp on!

If you're watching the golf you'll see the spectators well wrapped up!

Spots of rain here now again
