96.8mm to the end of the 28th. I wonder if I'll finally just be spared of another 100mm month? It would be the first of its kind since June! 😮

Matt Baker on BBC showing rainfall figures for March - 200%+ widely for S England and Midlands with top figure 243% at Pershore. As I noted in the Forum Arms yesterday, the Severn Valley below Worcester is an inland sea.

Edinburgh has been let off lightly - 'only' 192%

This means that it only ever really gets really wet for a very short period of time when it does before drying out again, and usually before that even happens in the rest of the UK.

Because of that, I wouldn't be surprised if April is a lot drier and possibly even drier than average with the deluge going on elsewhere although that will be more of a subject for next month's thread when that is started tomorrow.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Another fairly wet month with March recording 144.4mm less than last March which was 164mm but that came after a very dry February.

The latest rainfall data for Edinburgh Gogarbank is as follows:

Monthly Data

Final Total for March 2024: 101.2 mm (192.8% of 1991-2020 March average).

Number of rain days during March 2024: 13 (126.5% of 1991-2020 March average).

Number of dry days during March 2024: 9

A thoroughly wet month, especially in terms of the actual rainfall amounts with nearly twice the monthly average rainfall.

Seasonal Data

Total for this spring so far: 101.2 mm (68.1% of 1991-2020 spring average)

Number of rain days during this spring so far: 13 (43.0% of 1991-2020 spring average).

Number of dry days during this spring so far: 9

Unless April and May are both exceptionally dry with virtual drought conditions, this spring is already looking certain to be wetter than average overall.

Annual Data

Total for this year so far: 227.4 mm (29.0% of 1991-2020 annual average).

Number of rain days during this year so far: 40 (29.1% of 1991-2020 annual average).

Number of dry days during this year so far: 26

Unlike the last two years, there are no concerns about any overall deficit at this time of the year and if anyway, we actually have a rainfall surplus for this time of the year which hasn't been the case for quite a while here.

Note

This data has been obtained from https://www.ogimet.com  in raw BUFR format, and then converted into a more readable form by my own python script.

Yet another disgraceful month here. The 7th consecutive wetter than average month with 79.8mm (144%). Wettest pair of consecutive Marches since 1987/88.

The hell is just never ending with just three drier than average months in 19 now and the rolling 12-month total remaining ludicrous at 1176mm🤢

I just missed out on the 100mm for once, with 98.7mm. It was still a pretty rubbish month though...

Thought I'd bump this thread up with my own March total of 64.6 mm. Wet but not excessively so.
