As we are now into a brand new month (and a brand new season as well), it's now time to start to new thread for anyone who already has something to report for this month already.

Although we have a bright and sunny start to today here in Edinburgh, there is some precipitation (that could fall as sleet or snow in a number of places, especially over high ground and on the northern flank of that low pressure system) in the SW quarter of the UK just now as I write, so some of you may well already have something to report from that.

Most of the UK has just had a very wet winter and will be hoping that this month will be their first drier than average month of this year.

Here in Edinburgh, we have also just had a wet winter, but this is due to what happened in December and unlike in the rest of the UK, we have not yet actually had a wetter than average month in terms of the actual rainfall amounts during this year so far.

I will therefore continue to report on whether or not, this will end up being Edinburgh's first wetter than average month of this year in terms of the actual rainfall amounts.

For the rest of you, this is the very place to report those all important rainfall totals during this month, regardless of how all of that pans out.

My rain gauge finds it hard to gather horizontal 60mph rain but this morning system still gave a reading of 4.4mm.

Nowhere near as anomalously wet down here - using my nearest official station, we're at 24.7% of the year's rainfall so far, 19.7% of the way through the year. That said, March is now the driest month of the year here (91-20), and with a total so far this month of 36.8mm, it's a gnat's whisker away from the March average of 39.2mm.

Back to the here and now, 12.6mm of rain so far today with a little more to come. That's half an inch in old money!

Having been out to move the wheelie bin around... I've never seen the back lawn so sodden, and that's going back 40 years or so! Earlier in the year I dug a drainage ditch around 2/3rds of the way up the garden, where the lawn joins the former veg patch... 6 inches deep, and it's now filled to the brim with muddy water. The lawn itself squelches as you walk on it, and there are visible puddles in places.

This is all the more impressive as my garden sits on a slight hill... I'd imagine the fields up the road (which lie at the bottom of a hill) will be sporting massive lake-like puddles.
