After weeks and weeks and weeks of mostly frost-free weather, we're finally seeing some cooler, more seasonable nights with frost and ice. The coming week will be changeable with drier and wetter weather along with milder and colder temperatures. Plenty to keep an eye on...

Saturday morning has been mostly dry and sunny but there have been a few showers around western coasts while southern counties have had more general rain.

This afternoon will see the more general rain moving away from the south but a scattering of showers are possible elsewhere. That said, many places will stay dry with sunny spells. Temperatures will be chilly at 3C to 8C which is actually about average for this time of year but will feel colder than we've been used to in recent weeks.

Overnight, more of the showers will die out but a new area of low pressure will bring outbreaks of rain into south west England. The rest of the country will stay dry with clear spells but there could also be some dense fog patches. There will be a widespread frost with temperatures of -7C to 0C north to south.

Sunday will bring a mostly dry day to central and northern regions but southern England and Wales will have cloud and outbreaks of rain. Most of the fog patches will clear away to leave some bright or sunny spells in the north but central and southern regions will have a lot of cloud. Temperatures range from 2C to 9C north to south.

Monday sees a ridge of high pressure building in from the Atlantic as low pressure clears away to the south. We start off with rain in the south and south east but wet weather should move away to leave a mostly dry day with bright or sunny spells. Temperatures will be close to average at 3C to 8C.

A weather system moves in from the Atlantic on Tuesday. A band of cloud and rain pushes southeastwards through Scotland, Northern Ireland and northern England. The south and south east should stay dry while brighter skies follow to the north. After a widespread, sharp frost temperatures will be quite cold at 2C to 7C.

Wednesday will be a mainly dry day with sunny spells and variable cloud for eastern regions but cloud and rain arrives in the west during the afternoon and evening. Temperatures lift up slightly at 4C to 10C.

Low pressure and it's weather front looks set to become slow moving through the country on Thursday. We could see a cloudy, wet day with persistent outbreaks of rain lasting all day. Eventually brighter skies with showers should follow to the west. Despite the rain at least it will be milder with temperatures of 6C to 12C.

Low pressure is over the top of the country on Friday with showers or longer spells of rain. Temperatures will be colder again at 2C to 8C and we could see some of the rain turning to sleet and snow, particularly in the north.

Next weekend looks to stay quite cold and changeable with further rain, sleet and snow at times.

Summary: Drier but chilly to start the week. Becoming more unsettled later in the week with spells of rain returning.
