I'd completely forgotten about this thread, but there was a really loud clap of thunder here in the north of Edinburgh just a short while ago.
The latest radar map shows that this particular lightning strke occurred just to the NNE of here on the other side of the Firth of Forth, so the fact that it was seen and heard from the south of Edinburgh as Jerry has reported, shows how intense that was (to me, it sounded almost like a massive explosion which gave me a bit of a fright).
Since we didn't get anything like that during last summer, this on its own means that we've now had more thunderstorms during this winter than what we had last summer which just goes to show how bonkers our weather can be at times.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
