18c downstairs here now , coolest in the house for a while.

Outside it is 10.7c and cloudy.   Forecast to be cloudy all day today, looks like worse day of the week.  Having said that breaks in the cloud opening up across Greater Manchester so it wouldn't take too much for the gap to expand NE across the Pennines.

Further south there is very little sign of the low cloud burning back to the coast. In fact, looking at the cloud radar there is more hope that we get a partial clearance coming in from the North Sea later in the day. Met Office app now says that the sun will appear at 13.00. Earlier it said 11.00. I don't believe either!

It's getting well into the afternoon now, but there are still no signs of the Sun making making any sort of appearance here in Edinburgh.

As a result, the temperatures are once again refusing to rise here and remain stuck at around 13°C which is almost ridiculously cool for what is supposed to be the start of our so-called "summer", especially when you consider that I have seen many days even in the middle of winter which have been warmer than that.😡

Our beautiful sunny spell has ended! Today it feels cold with cloud and a fresh east wind, only 14 C max!
I see Nottingham's max was only 12 C yesterday and the Yorkshire coast only 10 C! Miserable for late Spring/Early Summer.
Meanwhile the Lakes and Western Scotland are well into their second week of glorious warm sunshine ☀️

Easterlies are never good for the east coast at this time of the year because even if the Sun does manage to break through in the end, it will usually always still feel rather chilly in that wind.

For that reason, I just wish that those easterlies would sod off and then don't come back until next winter when we could then, get some decent amounts of snow out of them.😡

17 downstairs and 16.4 upstairs - it's super, and remarkable for June. Long may the NE'ly breeze continue!

15.4C outside and sunny, the high so far is 15.8C.

(The cool indoor temperatures mean I get to snuggle up in my winter quilt tonight... a rare treat indeed in summer!)

Here in the north of Edinburgh, the Sun made a very brief appearance at around 5pm before disappearing once again for the rest of the day.

That resulted in 59 minutes of sunshine (by using raw BUFR data, sunshine totals are now recorded to the nearest minute as opposed to the nearest 6 minutes which you get with the older system that uses raw SYNOP data).

However, that would be seem as very poor even at around the time of the winter solstice and is really abysmal for this time of year when you consider that we are now less than three weeks away from the summer solstice. This means that although that is enough to give us our first recorded sunshine of this summer, that is a very poor figure to be starting off with.

Meanwhile, today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank was only 14.35°C (which isn't even warm enough for me to able to wear just a t-shirt outdoors) which means that although there are still no signs of any rain, this has been a very poor start to this so-called "summer" in terms of the temperature and sunshine totals.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 7pm BST (18:00 UTC) was around 13°C here in Edinburgh.

Today was definitely a day of two halves in the realm of that hopefully soon to kill itself round ball sport... probably controversial but I can't stand football, sorry.

The morning was dull, at the best of times, and temps at lunchtime was circa 13c with a cool breeze.

This afternoon has been glorious, blue skies, 19.3c at 4pm and perfect for being out and about, if only I wasn't working hard... kinda.

Mostly sunny after 10am and it reached 13.6C which felt warm compared to recently.
With clear skies it is already close to 5C and forecast says minimum 3C so it will be about 1C again with ground frost.
