After a really warm sunny half the day it's now overcast with the occasional break but mostly cloudy,  which is a relief from the hot sun. Over Corsley the car gauge read 22c so I checked the days highest temp at home and it had topped 24.5c at at 13:27, it's getting a little uncomfortable to do the gardening in but better than the first part of Spring, certainly lovely weather for holidays but I have to wait another 3 weeks for mine.

Managed 25C today making it our warmest day so far this year, but unfortunately I was stuck in work unable to enjoy the fine summers day.

Believe it or not, last night came close to being our coldest night of this month under clear skies. We just missed out on that by around 100th of 1°C as the overnight minimum temperature dropped to just 3.06°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank. Our coldest night of this month wasn't enough to give us a ground frost, but a ground frost was recorded last night at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today, it was bright for much of the time with the odd cloudier period. In the end, a total of 8.3 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank within what is clearly now going to be yet another duller than average month with this spring now also certain to go down as being duller than average overall because even with the lighter nights at this time of year, there isn't enough available daylight during the rest of this month, to be able to bring this spring's overall sunshine total up to the 1991-2020 spring average.

Despite the sunshine though, it never really got all that warm for this time of the year with the temperature rising only to 15.76°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature as at 11pm BST (22:00 UTC) had dropped back to a rather cool 9°C here in Edinburgh.

This is why tender plants can't go out until into June here and even then need to be prepared to cover them or bring back in until July.

Ne'er cast a clout till May be out it, is here in Dorset.

A fresh ENE breeze taking the edge off the morning but sunny.
This kind of wind is of course not good for man or beast I think at any time of year.
Some soft rain would be welcome...

After spending a day in Berkshire yesterday (where it was 22C with little wind and full sunshine - it felt baking!) it's back to Kent today. It's much more conducive for being out and about here:

Mostly cloudy, a NE'ly breeze, 13.6C after a high so far of 14.6C earlier.

Managed 21C today so down on yesterday but it's feeling very nice none the less.

Not a cloud in sight.

Breezier with a E/NE wind.

It's been a lovely bank holiday weekend here with lots of sunshine and pleasant temperatures (20°C again today) and it still looks set to continue. Good thing I'm off all week then!

What a fantastic late spring/early summer spell this is turning into! 😎😄

Today started off on another chilly note here in Edinburgh, but last night wasn't quite as cold as the night which preceded it and although we came within a whisker of getting another ground frost, there was no ground frost this time.

In addition to that, today is also much warmer than yesterday. As at 4pm BST (15:00 UTC) this afternoon, a total of 9.85 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank (that data from the raw BUFR data is reported to two decimal places as compared with the one decimal place which I previous got with the older system which takes that data from the raw SYNOP reports, so that newer BUFR system is what I will now be using from now on to report this data as I have now just completed the development of my new python scripts which now take that into consideration). With a few hours still to go until sunset as well, there is now no reason why today can't end up being our sunniest day of this year so far.

Whatever happens between now and the end of the current observation day at 09:00 UTC tomorrow morning though, today will go down as our warmest day of this year so far as the temperature at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 4pm BST (15:00 UTC) this afternoon was 21.52°C. This also means that today is the first day of this year where the temperature has reached or gone above 70°F here in Edinburgh.

The Central Belt has been the warmest place in the UK today with 22 C at Glasgow, Stirling and Edinburgh. Sunshine from Dawn til Dusk today. We've just had 4 nice days, dry and quite sunny and preceding this I had 7 sunny, dry and warmish days in the Lakes so the second half of May has delivered for me!

Today's highest temperature at Edinburgh Airport was indeed, 22°C. Today's maximum temperature at Edinburgh at Edinburgh Gogarbank is confirmed so far (since the observation day doesn't officially end until 09:00 UTC tomorrow morning) to be 21.97°C and although the botanic gardens in Edinburgh were slightly cooler due to an on-shore sea breeze, the temperature reached 20.5°C today even there.

This means that the temperature at all three of my local stations rose to above 20°C, albeit for only the first time this year.

In addition to that, I can also confirm that today was our sunniest day of this year so far with a total of 14.9 hours of sunshine at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening.

However, the temperature as at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening had dropped back rather sharply to around 13°C here in Edinburgh.

North Sea cloud here and Western Pennines Eastwards.   Hopefully it will clear, but always seems to take longer than forecast.
Forecasts for the last few days have over-estimated cloud cover but gone the other way now, really hard to pin down cloud cover in these situations but the difference between a cool and warm day.

Yet another superb start with clear blue sky. A light NE drift though so won't be as warm as yesterday. It's 15 C by 1030 though in the shade with very strong sun
