Overcast with occasional spitty light rain that isn’t even registering on my rain gauge. Light/mod S breeze making the current 8.0 C & high 80% H feel rather draughty-like. A comedown on yesterday’s brightness.

Dull, overcast and murky, it was quite foggy earlier on but had since lifted. The kind of day where just 0.2 mm of drizzle is enough to make it soaking wet. A clammy 9.8 C & high 90% H with a mod S breeze adding to the chill.

Mostly cloudy with occasional chinks of brightness and light spitty rain just enough to keep the dampness going. Mod SW breeze making the current 12.3 C & high 80% H feel fresh.

It has been a very pleasant day here today. Currently it's 14.9⁰C in the garden and feels very nice I'm the sunshine and light winds.

... which is exactly why I said on the moaning thread earlier on today, that this month is likely to be duller than average once again.

I haven't looked at the sunshine totals for the rest of today but at around 4pm this afternnon, only around an hour of sunshine had actually been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Of course, that later total might well have been fairly decent because as you have said, this afternoon and evening have been fairly pleasant. However, that period was quite late in the day which means that even if the sunshine total from that was quite decent, there is no chance of that being anything like enough for this month to even have the remotest of chances of being sunnier than average here, especially given tomorrow's forecast.

As for your last point about easterlies, that is the one point which I don't agree with. Personally, I would much rather have been getting those easterlies during the winter with them bringing in quite a bit of snow in the form of those North Sea streamers which you have often talked about before.

For that reason, I would say that it's actually too late for easterlies rather than too early, but that is only my own personal opinion at the end of the day, and anybody is free to agree or disagree with that as they wish.

Back on topic, tonight is dry but overcast the temperature still up at around 11 °C here in Edinburgh as at 9pm BST (20:00 UTC) this evening so even for this time of the year, it is now turning out to be quite warm here.

Lively last night, but not really enough to justify the MetO wind warning, Not raining at the moment but I don't think that will last.

Hi John
Re: Easterlies, i suppose what I meant was it's too late for my beloved snowy easterlies and too early for warmer summer easterlies!
In fact easterlies should be banned in E Scotland unless they bring copious snow showers 😂

Meanwhile it's 10am and the dreich conditions have arrived with light rain.....nice!
The fog is shrouding ground above 150m and it's 8 C. Don't think we'll see double figures today or tomorrow with a flow off the sea

Cloudy with spitty rain blowing about in brisk W breeze but most of the rain fell overnight (6.2 mm since 12 am). A rather below par 10.7 C & mid 90% H.

Other than that, nowhere as bad as I thought it would be as the centre of Mathis pass to my north.

I know what you mean by that and of course, that is no doubt also  a reference to the fact that easterlies tend to actually be more common here in the latter part of the spring and early summer in particular, than at any other time of the year.

Even in the middle of summer, easterlies are never all that warm here and the resulting North Sea effect can result in it still being cool and misty here in the north of Edinburgh even at that time of the year, whilst it's much hotter and sunnier in the south of Edinburgh for the same reasons that this same North Sea effect can result in there being nothing at all in the way of lying snow in the north of Edinburgh at a time when the south of Edinburgh is absolutely plastered with the stuff (although even the north of Edinburgh can still get some deep snow from that if the air is coming from a cold enough source and that is when we are also more likely to get a thundersnow event due to that instability which arises from this really cold air moving across the relatively warm North Sea).

As a result, you're right to say that easterlies should be banned from the east of Scotland unless they're bringing in a lot of snow and the only thing which I would add to that is by saying that this should especially be the case here in the north of Edinburgh.

Meanwhile and back on topic, the weather has turned to be very much as expected and the east coast haar has now closed in quite a bit here in the north of Edinburgh after there was the odd bright interval and even the odd glimpse of the Sun earlier on. As a result, this month will now go down as being duller than average here overall regardless of what happens between now and sunset as there is no longer enough available daylight to be able to give us the amount of sunshine which would be needed to give us a sunnier than average month.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 1pm BST (12:00 UTC) this afternoon was around 8°C here in Edinburgh.

Terrible day - probably because we booked it off work with the intention of having a day out!

Nearly 24mm of rain so far today, most of it this afternoon. Went to the garden centre in Bagshot where it was even wetter; 33mm on a nearby PWS there. The outdoor part of the garden centre was awash, as were the car parks. Massive puddles around here as well.

I took my daughter to Yateley (where Rob K lives) at 5.30pm, it's a different world there. Just a regular rainy day, small puddles. PWSs there have only recorded between 6mm and 8mm today, despite being just 2 miles from home. The heavy rain came from an almost static band; its southern edge was between here and Yateley.

Lots of flooded roads round here and burst manhole covers, the road surfaces already full of potholes thanks to the Council being bankrupt and not fixing any

Car took a battering and you cant see the potholes in the heavy rain

Happy April Fool's Day everyone.

Sadly though, this latest report is no April Fool's joke as today has started off once again on a dull and dreary note with occasional bits and pieces of drizzle.

Meanwhile, the temperature as at 9am BST (08:00 UTC) was around 5°C here in Edinburgh.
