You are very lucky. My pond is just about 3m x 1m when full. I made it 20 years ago and has had frogs and currently smooth newts. It has a small pumped waterfall which runs down from the rock sides built up on the raised spoil from digging the pond. It needs urgent attention. The shrubbery to its south has grown extensively and now shades it too much and deposits leaves and petals mainly from a large hawthorn. I will have to bite the bullet this Autumn and empty it because it is full of black sludge from the rotting leaves.

That’s the thing about ponds. They are ephemeral and require regular management to retain their species diversity. People are all for making them, but often that’s as far as they go, and they eventually silt up. The local wildlife trust has or had one that was at one time a beautiful habitat, a jewel I suppose one could call it, at its HQ garden. The last time I saw it, it was a shadow of what it once was. No one in the office seemed keen to clear it or maintain it, as it was not in their job description.  FFS was all I could think of.
