Rapid rise in temperature here this pm too. Now up to 8.9C. The snow which was still falling this morning already feels like a distant memory .....

Here in Edinburgh, we have just a very light dusting of snow which is left over from the overnight period.

That has all cleared away though to leave us with a bright and sunny start to this morning and the wind has died down quite a lot as well.

As the skies cleared, the temperature eventually dropped away but last night wasn't as cold as other recent nights and unlike on those other recent nights, an official air was recorded only at Edinburgh Airport and Edinburgh Gogarbank, but not at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh due to the effect of the wind coming in from off the North Sea.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am GMT (08:00 UTC) this morning was ranging from around -1°C here at Edinburgh Gogarbank to around +1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Overcast grey clouds.
Some flakes of snow fell.
Breezy.

Fantastic blizzard like snow, turned into big whirling flakes and just increased intensity for 2.5 hours. It left a slushy deposit on most surfaces - 1.5cm on lawn, but was always just a little too far above freezing to settle properly. Sunny for a while and temps rose to 3 degrees, now back at 2 and sleeting with snowy episodes from a large shower. Can’t help feeling that a couple of decades ago even, this would have been a 100mm fall of wettish but fluffy snow, rather than a slush-fest. Just in a bout of snow again - pretty to watch...

Been a soggy night with 9.0 mm of rain since 12 am. Even though it is trying ever so hard to brighten up as I type, there are still light cold rain showers with the current 2.8 C & mid 90% H feeling particularly raw in a brisk northerly wind. However improvements are expected this afternoon.

From 3 to 4" of snow on Wednesday to 10c and rain yesterday and then back to a bit of snow and 3.5c today, it's been a rollercoaster week of weather.

Monday looks like starting the week off to a "fine" start.

We had scarcely 1cm of snow this morning which was frozen.
The sun melted this within an hour. I've just been out and about and despite a max of 5.5 C the thin cover has survived in well shady areas all day. We have had clear blue skies all day! I suppose this is due to 'solar radiation'? Have I got that right?

Low -4.0c,  could have been much colder it cloud cover hadn't increased during the night.

It's high dewpoints which are the killer for snow - when you've said the shaded areas have snow cover still, that implies low dewpoints and dry air. Get dewpoints that are much above freezing and even on a sunless day the snow will melt in no time!

Fair with hazy sunshine, a vast improvement on yesterday even if it is still chilly at 6.1 C & low 70% H but no wind to speak of. There was a frost last night with a min of -0.7 C at 3 am (nearby night club closing time!) but was all gone by the time I got out of bed at 8.30 am.

Decided it's safe to drive south to Notts today. Plenty of snow lying on all high ground away from the immediate coast. Very little in Newcastle but reasonable amount Durham/Darlington. Now at Scotch Corner, still 4" here at the eastern end of the A66. All paths and roads clear and dry with clouds of salt being whipped up on the A1
I've just come under the frontal cloud. 5 C here

Part two of my journey. Very little snow around Leeds and Doncaster but I'm surprised to find quite a lot in Mapperley (110m amsl) in the north of Nottingham. 2-3" in places away from roads with the remains of moderate drifting in country areas. Can see the Leicestershire and Derbyshire hills still well covered. No snow left in the Trent Valley though

3.3c and cloudy with a steady thaw. Stil full snow cover and all the fields are still thick with deep snow.  When I looked into down into Wharfedale earlier fields were green below about 70m with snow cover above that line. Might be a bit higher now.
