Amazing that the CET max for today despite being a massive record will not reflect just how hot the day was as none of the stations listed there contribute to it

According to the Weather App, Sheffield is down to 30 C, but now feels quite oppressive.

Reached 37.1 at home in Glossop which is truly incredible. 39c in Leicester mid afternoon before a rapid cool down to 31 earlier this evening.

Certainly been a very memorable spell. As others have said it’s unreal how widespread the heat was.

22.6C at Herstmonceaux was the highest at 12z today, but the plume went a long way north! Nothing approaching 25C though.

Thanks.

Is this an example of a Spanish plume?

They were still pretty hot and it will smash the CET record.

Rothamsted max was 38.5C

Pershore max was 37.0C

Stonyhurst max was 36.2C

That gives a mean max of 37.2C, which with the Hadley UHI adjustment should give 37.0C.

Yeah, still expecting a mean around 28.5C which will take some beating even in a warming climate

Bramham at 39.8c is annoying, would have been great to have a 40c North of the M62.

When driving from Bramham by the A1, the car thermometer always goes up a degree when you go down into the Vale of York, Tadcaster/York areas so a shame there is no station as 40c would almost certainly have been hit.

I am not even going to try and count how many stations got to 100F. The geographical spread is amazing. Hopefully the Met Office will come up with some maps (in bright crimson, natch).

I drove onto a64 near York and my car temp was showing 41c. By the time I came past Bramham 20 mins later it was down to 36c.

We’ve been in Sheffield/Peak District the last couple of days and I can confirm it is/was unsettlingly hot.

Luckily we capitalised on some of Sheffield’s superb sheltered river valleys to escape the worst :-)

Nice display of mammatus at the moment here. Not as impressive as the evening of 25 July 2019 though, that was apocalyptic.

Rob thanks for compiling this; I imagine a lot of us had closing questions, so to speak. A useful reference.

Looks like Waddington has been discounted by the met office.  Apparently the upkeep of the ground around the site to blame.

Temperature holding up at about 26C which still feels warm and isn't providing much relief indoors. I was expecting a bigger breakdown. Looking forward to getting a bit of air in the house tomorrow

Can see lightning flickering away to my south west as a line of rain move slowly and painfully north east wards over the Channel. Still a hideously swampy 27 C & 57% H but a decent westerly breeze is in progress.
