That was at Edinburgh Airport, but I can also confirm that your old local station at Swanston beat that figure with a temperature of 22.5°C as recorded at 3:50pm BST this afternoon.

Elsewhere in Edinburgh, the highest temperatures which I have been able to find are 20.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 21.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

It should also be taken into consideration as well that there was a cloudier spell during this afternoon which even brought a little bit of light rain.

That brought a temporary drop in the temperature and had it not been for that, today's temperatures may well have ended up being a bit higher than what I have reported here.

In the end though, these might be the last decent temperatures which we get for a while here as cooler air is expected to move in over the next few days whilst the southerners get their burst of heat with much higher temperatures.

Looking quite thundery here now. Feels like the end of a hot spell, if I hadn't seen the models I wouldn't expect tomorrow to be hotter than today.

There were some blobs of rain showing on the radar earlier . I presume it was not getting to ground . Very heavy feeling  here now and overcast

I wonder why the unexpected clouds roll in from the west as we are getting heat from the south?  In the past we get clear skies and drier air from the south or SE flow and wall to wall hot sunshine.  Miss the old days seeing the word Hot, dry and sunny forecasts.

That's what I'm thinking. Without radar and using old school intuition I would put money on there being a storm. Yet the forecast says otherwise for tonight and tomorrow. Maybe Saturday? But it still has that hot, humid and thundery feel about it.

It’s exactly the same here in my part of the East Midlands.  Flat cam, sultry and heavy with cloud cover.  I would expect it to be a stormy night ending a hot spell, but that’s not what is forecast.

Discreet upper trough. The convection was very high up and upper winds pushed it W-E. Similar thing happened yesterday across the Midlands.

It reached 24°C where I am today, so a nice, pleasantly warm early summer's day. Tomorrow will depend on cloud though, if it turns out overcast (as it looks at the moment), it will likely be a similar temperature. Sunshine would suggest upper-20s OTOH.

From the Met Office U.K. forecast today:

”Dry and increasingly sunny further south and felling hot or very hot.”

Thanks for that explanation and yes it was visible two days on the trot here too in Dorset.

Yesterday evening the clouds were actually moving slightly southwards, strange during a plume event! I did feel a few drops of rain at around 9.30-10pm.

The models have certainly dialled back the temperatures a bit more today. 32C looks the highest on UKV and Arpege has a couple of 33s in East Anglia.

I wonder if the high cloud is causing the hi res models trouble. It’s pretty clear here, but a lot of apps were going for a lot of cloud through the morning. I know GFS doesn’t handle cloud well.

I've got no bedroom today, as the plasterers in there. Luckily, it's fell on a very warm day like today, so I'm going to try and nod in the garden.
