Whilst I'm at it and on a separate topic, I have just seen the latest official Met Office forecast for Christmas Day which is showing a maximum temperature of around 5°C here in Edinburgh which isn't even all that cold for this time of the year.

Up until now, there has always been a lot of uncertainty about Christmas in the model output, but that was always about whether it would be cold or not down in England. Scotland on the other hand, was supposedly going to be guaranteed a cold Christmas, albeit mostly dry with nothing more than a few snow showers.

So much then for that cold Christmas which we were supposedly going to be getting.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

Infuriating that the last 10 days of model watching were a complete waste of time yet again.

We will be seeing pictures from the rest of Europe over the coming days while we continue with the boring weather.

Yes boring indeed, if this morning output is correct then down here in the far SW we will have the worse of nothingness. Windy but nothing but a nuisance, grey but only mizzle falling. Mild but due to the sea temps we will be in a perpetual 10-12c day or night.
We haven’t recorded one ground frost so far this autumn/ winter, unusual even for down here.

This is my worse fears for winter as it is so depressing especially after the festive season has past.

A frost or two ‘round Winter Solstice Day,
mean’ two month o’ rain be on its way.

And:

Autumn muck ‘round Christmas time,
mean’ last week in May, it will be fine.

Another dull and dank over cast day - still yet to record it's first frost of the winter here in Exeter! Models have flipped to a horrific nightmare for most after so much promise and now we are expecting wind and rain for Xmas day here in Exeter:

Meanwhile in Moscow daytime temperatures some 16c to -18c below the seasonal average with a max of -22c today:

Had not noticed it was not showing as put location in City, and not where do you live in profile settings. Should be sorted now.

Big moan knowing we (south) will see temperatures reaching dizzy heights of +13c or +14c by day with a warm south westerly wind and for the next week! Overcast dark and dank whilst the rest of Europe get's proper winter with cold and snow as has been the case for weeks now esp for Scandinavia and the NE. Oh well! "Brexit means Brexit!" after all! - Theresa May was right all along sadly!

PS Saw the first snow drops yesterday and daffodils protruding through flower beds and it's not even Xmas yet! wow!

The last three Fridays I've been working have seen brilliant sunshine only to be followed by sickening filth come Saturday

Now I am off that sickening filth has extended to Friday

The vilest Christmas Eve imaginable, entirely devoid of festive cheer. 3.6C and yet another grey rain sodden day

Phenomenally bad, wrist-slittingly awful garbage and it has been like this all week. Barely any sun at all. Just day after day of cold grey/wet soul destroying crap that is completely sucking any enjoyment out of the festive season

The completely frost free winter continues. Not even on Wednesday when it dipped to -2C was there any sign of frost. Just endless horrible suicide inducing grey. Nasty cold, unpleasant vomit.

This is the worst run into Christmas since the flooding of 2012. Absolutely disgusting. I'd far rather have the 12C bright dry weather we had last week (before yet another rank weekend). While unseasonable and unwelcome at least it's suitable for doing things outdoors. This dross has no redeeming qualities whatsoever. It's beyond horrific

This current weather is what you used to get in cold winters between the heavy snow and hard frosts. Now it has to be endured without any sort of reward

Groundhog day. Cloudy, dark, grey, mild, drizzling.

In the last two weeks we have had just 5 hours of sun. Yes 5 hours - must be an all time record. The most on any one given day is less than two hours. The worst of the worst.

'Tis the season to be jolly! - but it's hard work when the forecasts for next week, bar Boxing Day, are continuously 'overcast with light rain'

It's a grim outlook for sure.

With the aim of planning a long walk this week,  I just searched in vain for a sun symbol in the MetO 7-day automated forecast for my location.

Best to focus on the ‘maximum temperature’ column; or even the minima; then think of the savings on the heating bill.

The snow boundary for this front moving up from the SW is forecast to site a frustrating 40'ish miles from my house.

Despite being in the middle of a yellow warning area for snow here in the Scottish Borders, I haven't seen anything of that nature here in Hawick, and everything around me is still as green as ever.

Indeed, this is more like typical Edinburgh weather rather than typical winter weather. In other words, it is dark and dank with constant grey skies where I am, but with nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of any sort of actual weather.
