The highest official 24hr time period total for the UK is 11” (in Dorset) and the highest for any 24hr period is 13.4” at Honister Pass in the Lake District.

Pakistan floods kill 1000 people and affect 33 MILLION more.

It seems that the monsoon which normally has a sequence of 3 or 4 bursts of rain, is now on its eighth cycle.

One-third of Pakistan underwater, according to reports.

Pakistan is just short of 800,000 sq km; a third of that is greater than the total area of Britain at 250,000 sq km. Mind-boggling

Correction, courtesy of BBC's 'More or Less'; a third of all administrative districts in Pakistan have declared a state of catastrophe. That's still really bad, but not so dramatic as originally reported.

France recorded its hottest ever September day today 40.7c in Begaar in the SW.

A crazy temperature for so late in the year.

Weatheronline shows Pau, Dax and Mont-de-Marsan all at 39C so I guess 40.7C somewhere nearby is possible but is it official? The official records appear to have broken local records at least

By next week from the charts I view with sausage shaped HP from SW to Scandi which will bring some warmth back here from France to low 20's.  Any heat left in France will aid us some further warmth and hope that push to early October.

Long article here detailing the many heat records broken, plus droughts and floods. Snippets to give the flavour but there's a lot more.
https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2022/09/hottest-summer-on-record-for-europe-and-china-during-northern-hemispheres-2nd-hottest-summer/

  • Globally, an astonishing 298 long-term weather stations – including 265 in China – set their all-time heat records in August.

  • the Yangtze River at Wuhan had sunk by early September to its lowest late-summer levels in some 150 years of record-keeping.

  • the town of Padidan in Sindh recorded 1763.9 mm (69.44 inches) of rain in July and August, more than three times its heaviest annual total on record. It could take up to six months for the waters to recede

  • EU harvest forecasts are down 16% for corn, 15% for soybeans, and 12% for sunflowers, because of drought and heat

  • within just two months, a mountain pass at Les Diablerets Switzerland, ice-covered for several thousand years, became ice-free.

  • 'Hunger stones' were used to mark desperately low river levels that would forecast famines. This one, in the Elbe river, is from 1616 and says: "If you see me, cry"

  • Mediterranean Sea is accumulating heat ! Anomalies over +5°C are measured in western part. [with chart]

  • The southern route through Canada’s Northwest Passage was almost sea ice-free as of late August

  • Eight all-time national/territorial heat records set or tied in 2022 [listed; incl UK]

A area near Nicosia at same time reached at 41.2C in Alonoudi while Nicosia was 40.2C.

Wish UK offer some variety in Autumn. Autumn shouldn't' be all about rain and winds, there should be some hot to start with in Autumn to warm spells the colder spells in later part of Autumn.

Cold front arrived and same place that reached 41.2C had big drop to 14.8C a record 26.4C diurnal drop range.  Very interesting to record. here such a severe borefast UK Autumn without any variety anymore.
