Yet another ludicrous spell of permacast hell goes on and on. Day after day of pure and utter misery. Demoralising, draining, depressing.

The only thing that's changed is the direction the endless train of tiresome and sleep-inducing overcast is coming from. Now after being overcast all day, and only the merest glimmer of brightness, the sky has miraculously cleared but only in the NE quadrant which of course is totally pointless

I'd even rate July 2012 more highly at this stage. At least it produced two sunny afternoons in the first week of the month with temperatures near 20C. The past week has just been a total write-off.

Once again I feel sorry for school children enduring a worse week of holiday weather than anything I did as a child. No wonder there are so many problems with child obesity these days.

Sunshine total in the past week a staggeringly awful 8.0 hours. Well below the weekly average even for the darkest part of winter and we are supposed to be in mid-summer. 2012 is in fact the only year I have recorded less sunshine than this in the week ending 24th December which I suppose would be the darkest week of the year. Mind bogglingly terrible May was even worse and that's supposed to be the sunniest month.

It's just a complete joke - the lack of changeability resulting in these excruciating dull spells is getting worse and worse. In the past year I have recorded record dull weeks in my 14-year records for August, December, February and May. A third of the year. There was also a prolonged dull period in mid-November. Now this horror July is attempting to give us two top 10 dull months out of three. That's in the top 10 dullest since 1880

Awful does not even begin to describe how bad a summer is when there is barely even the briefest of windows to do anything outdoors, during the course of a week, and the only source of vitamin D available is a pill.

It's yet another catastrophic disaster of a summer from the post 2006 era of unprecedented hell. June was nowhere near good enough to make up for May alone never mind such a stinking rotten May and July.

It's bad enough not being able to travel abroad without also having to endure weather that is worse than anything that would have been imagineable 20 years ago

Only one half sunny late morning and early afternoon here this month so far. Last summer was pretty much constantly dull and this one so far is certainly giving it a run for its money.

Manchester high teens/scraping into low 20s the past week.

Liverpool around 24C

Liverpool night time temps have been significantly higher too. With a generally westerly flow you would expect Manchester to be a little higher than Liverpool, especially during the day.

There is something very wrong here.

Yes, Liverpool is clearly erroneous. Can’t just be exposure if the night temps are high too, it must be calibration.

This appalling July just gets worse! Currently 15c and its been raining heavily for the past several hours. So far this month, except on the 1st, we have not exceeded 20c at all and only 3 days has the max temp reach 20c. A very cool month so far here. How the CET is at 17c i`ll never know despite the warm(ish) nights day time maxes are well below thier average.

Here in Fulham another long deluge with supressed temperatures. Will this ever end? it is so depressing....

I still haven't got a major complaint for this summer so far. Yes, there's been a few wet days in the last week or so, but it is the UK after all. It's lovely today at 22°C with sunny spells, and I'm looking forward to some proper heat from the weekend onwards.

Liverpool Airport leading again today. It's reporting 25°C this afternoon. It's pleasantly warm in North West England today, but it's not that warm.

I think it has been good too.  The June anomaly maps (Temp, Sunshine and rainfall) confirm that for most areas away from the far South.  July I would say not great so far, some nice days but also wet (although rainfall has been very localised), but with the upcoming warm weather i think overall it will come out as a warmer and sunnier month than average again.  Therefore well on the way for a decent summer overall.

What we need is a hot and sunny August, which never seems to happen these days.

My moan for today.

I was due to host a team barbecue this Friday in my garden. Weather looks absolutely perfect for it.

Then my daughter’s school year all get sent home to isolate because someone got a positive test, so I’ve had to postpone the barbecue to next Friday. Luckily I hadn’t bought most of the food yet. Next Friday, as the models all suggest, is somewhat more dubious down here weather wise. If it’s a washout I’m blaming that bloody virus.

It's been very wet here this month with over 80mm already, but since it's largely been from relatively short-lived downpours as opposed to prolonged, all-day rainfall, it's not a bad thing imo. I think there have only been 2 days so far this month that I'd describe as being poor - otherwise, temps in the low 20s with a mix of sunshine and cloud. Perfectly decent.

If we get a hot, sunny August then this summer will go down as being a good one (and would arguably be the 4th good summer on the trot).

No decent months in the S.E so far. A couple of short decent spells. In recent years, especially last year, you could merge Spring with Summer but with Spring being so exceptionally cold we are playing catch up. Even today has been cloudy and only just making 21C with a cool breeze. The only good thing is water butts are full and the garden doesn't need much watering. Even the pond is full and it is usually very low by now.

June was a decent month.. and I'm southeast. July has been somewhat iffy to start but this past week it's improved, and looking likely to remain that way for a week more.
