Last month's  precipitation thread was dominated by a discussion on the lack of rainfall during that month but if the latest model output is correct, this one looks like being a completely different story.

Looking at the observations for my own local stations, we have had exceptionally dry Aprils which have been followed by a drier than average May with last year providing us with a very good example of that. However, I have never come across an exceptionally dry April with the following month of May being as least as dry as what that April was.

Because of that, I am expecting this thread to be a bit busier than the last one with the main focus returning more towards actual rainfall being recorded, rather than any discussions about any lack of rainfall.

Indeed, that may well even start today as showers are forecast for many areas, which may well result in some totals being reported in those particular locations. Because of that, I have decided to start this thread just now so that anyone who has any totals to report from today's showers are able to do so.

Even if you don't get any recorded rainfall today though, this is still the place to report any rainfall which does occur during this month, and I am expecting quite a bit of that over the next few days, especially with a major area of low pressure being forecast to cross the country on Monday and Tuesday.

Still not convinced the S.E is going to get that much rain from this current depression or much through the rest of the week.

There was about 5mm (useful) rain the other evening from a shower that revitalised the grass overnight. The current offerings according to the radar look meagre here in South Dorset but impressive further north. The wind though is notable today being from the SW and gale force.

Cold rain later in the week perhaps after this milder offering? Not plant enhancing southerly stuff but decaying Arctic sourced chill.

As at 7pm this evening, a total of at least 13.0 mm of rain has fallen since 10am BST this morning (09:00 UTC) at Edinburgh Gogarbank, along with at least 10.0 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and it's still raining here as I write.

For both of those stations, this means that we have had almost three times the total rainfall for the whole of the month of April, just in the space of a few hours and so, we are already seeing how different a story is unfolding during this month compared to what we saw during April when the rain just kept on refusing to fall here.

I have 26mm too for the month, but my gauge blew over in the night, so there may have been a bit more in the night?
