Winter's here and the dewpoint's right for dancing in the sleet.

Epic get to watch yet another snow event stall @ my doorstep yet again. Then a few repeats in the coming week. Then Oh joy a possible Easterly where the NE and SE get buried and I'll be stuck in no snowman's land 😶

now sadly defunct. Well the view is still there but the webcam hasn't been for several years. I’m not sure what died first the King’s College University of Aberdeen webcam or the concept of a snowy winter in Aberdeen.

I know you are not a fan of Easterlies Doc, but don't you think it is just that they have become warmer up there because of the N.Sea SST's. In East Anglia the main reason for the lack of snow is complete lack of snow showers for 20 years on a NE'ly or E'ly. Remember we were getting snow showers when the Baltic was frozen solid!

23mm of rain in the last 24 hrs. Now the only small clump of rain over England is heading straight at me and it looks torrential. The complete opposite of summer when i needed it and every shower missed here! I now have an African hot drought/monsoon climate with just two seasons!

I'm very pleased to have some nice mild weather, but I too could have done without the 20mm of rain in the last 36 hours.  The garden is squelchy and sodden, but last summer I was desperate for rain.  A two-season climate is spot on, and the wet season continues apace.  But at least mild rain is better than cold rain.

Indeed, it's pi**ing down here at Folkestone. Again. It's like having all of last Summer's rain saved up for this Winter on top of the normal Winter average amount.

Thankfully it just dived south of me but caught you and Darren. I was doing a rain dance form about May onwards with every shower missing me by about 2 miles! Then in October they dug up my drive and I needed dry weather to lay the resin and its rained pretty much every day since!

Averaging over 100mm per month since October in the driest area in England!

Yup, it was chucking it down here earlier - over 4mm in an hour. That takes it up to 139.2mm this month, which is just nuts for here.

No snow at all for the past two years here. Will it or won't it this year for the extreme South?

11c here in Exeter with rain. Crazy to think it's snowing less than 100 miles north? 10c tomorrow with more rain yet 100miles north snow. (Rinse and repeat - it's a deja vu) - where do we go from here?

You think you've got it bad - it was forecast to be sub zero, heavy snow with a strong Easterly here 24hrs ago. Instead I've got heavy rain, 1.9c and a strong easterly - 30 miles north as the crow flies it's snowing heavily.

So close but yet so far - could've been a truly awesome event here had that band stayed 50 miles south where it was supposed to. Grrrrrr!

Another 10mm of cold rain this morning just to keep the floods topped up! Despite all the waffle and hints on the forecast last night about rain moving in turning to snow not once did they come out with the clear and obvious forecast of grey skies and 10mm of cold rain.

Well, if it makes you feel any better - underneath that band here it was in fact 5C with rain, not a hint of wintriness to be seen (nor was it likely). HARMONIE got it wrong again, as it has done several times this month.

13.4mm here so far today, not even that cold this time. That means I've just passed the 152.4mm mark for the month - which, in old money, is an incredible 6 inches of rain.

(There's standing water on the grass in part of the garden where I've never seen it before. The garden as a whole is on a slight slope, which makes it even more unusual!)

Given that this has not been an Atlantic dominated winter, the rainfall totals are incredibly high. Is there anyone who has stats of rainfall totals for the two types of winter, and if so, where does this one fall in the list?

Although I don't have my own weather station, I've done a little digging for rainfall totals. The nearest I can find is Kenley, about 6 miles away, and at a significantly higher elevation (170m asl compared to 55m asl). The totals don't make pretty reading...

Allegedly Croydon has average rainfall totals of 650mm pa. Kenley has recorded these figures for the last 4 months:

Oct 2020 144mm

Nov 2020 62mm

Dec 2020 124mm

Jan 2021 111mm

Total of 441mm

I then totalled Feb - Sept 2020 (8months). Despite February having 152mm, the 8 month total was only 444mm.

I then compared the period Oct 2019 - Jan 2020, which as we all (in the SE) know, barely had a frost, let alone snow. That gave a total of 393mm (2 inches less in old terms), most of the difference being in December and January period.

More rain, more cold rain, I'm getting fed up with this!!!

It has been an Atlantic winter, with low after low after low. It's just that they're much further south than usual, hence we down here have been getting the full force.

Normally, of course, they'd be north of Scotland.
