Amazing the difference between Watford and Harpenden. I guess 15 miles can be quite significant when it comes to rainfall.

How much fell in Harpenden? Yes wide variations over the local area, been lots of flooding in parts of Watford. Most of the rain fell on Friday night 28mm.

Light rain here this morning, following on from two wet days... 58mm of rain so far this month, which is impressive considering it's only the morning of the 4th. The lawn was still solid yesterday morning, but I would imagine now it would be rather squelchy to walk on.

It looks like the heaviest rain is reserved for areas further west this morning, meaning the wolves at the wolf centre will be very soggy today! Just as well the site's on a hill...

At least we seem to be getting away with heavy rain and (so far) only moderate flooding, but you can see https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-54402096 why the French went for a named storm.

And the jetstream forecast (see MO thread) makes it look as if the same areas of S France and Italy will see more storms in the next week

I'm looking at Rothamsted which is just outside Harpenden.  It has now measured 95mm in the last 72 hours.

A further 16.2mm so far today.

Total for October now stands at 109.2mm. All of that has fallen in the last 60 hours.

Already looking very likely that February will not be the wettest month of the year in these parts. The figure to beat is 152.6mm.

Total rainfall for the year now stands at 661mm

I love that Italy recorded both the highest (37.5c) and lowest (-11c) temperature yesterday.

Still going, but for some reason not as much roof leaking as Friday night - perhaps because we have a westerly breeze. For some reason it leaks more when there is an easterly or no wind!

Wow. The 37.5C would be Palermo on the north coast of Sicily. If that 37.5C is confirmed then that's a new record high for them for October. The previous record was 37.4C.

What a contrast to the relentless rain here in southern England!

After virtually no effective rain since March there has been 70mm now this month and it's still chucking it down. This is virtually unknown for S.Essex. 14mm since midnight which doesn't tie up well with what they said on the News 24 forecast and the graphics yesterday evening. Seems to be hanging on much further East than predicted.
