You cant really blame these people for going out. They read newspapers which are constantly talking about the lockdown ending, and they see what's happening in other countries and want the same thing

Yes and the money from fines should go into the public purse towards the cost of this virus!

No you cannot blame them when they see un restricted flights arriving here since the outset of the Pandemic . The Scientist who reckoned it was no good to stop and quarantine in coming passengers must be a brick short of a barrowload so he will probably get a Knighthood

Whether you can be bothered or not is just tough. Brexit was never defined to give a mandate to a hard no-deal departure from the EEA. Scotland and NI voted overwhelmingly remain yet are being trampled on, not because a differential Brexit isn't possible but because of a right wing dogmatic Government.

To be fair, the people in that photo do look to be keeping a good distance and are not causing trouble.

All to protect the NHS which now seems to be coping well. A lot of these journeys, especially at the weekend, may be local people who have learnt workrounds that are transmission safe. Like dropping off shopping, maybe birthday cards or a strimmer etc. These can all be done with social distancing the same as any other deliveriesand there is no lower transmission risk than the inside of your car.

Well In the last fortnight  I have used my car as follows :-

1.  Last Saturday to take groceries to The Folks (joint Ocado order to me at home)

2.  Wed last   week  a trip into   work to get equipment   to enable   remote working to continue.

3.  Today - take groceries  to the folks (Joint Ocado order to me at home)

4.  Also today, a brief trip in the MX5 across the downs  because it hasn't moved for  loads of weeks  and  needed a short run out- and I fancied doing it

So 3 justifiable runs and one   not so justifiable !  However, social distancing maintained at all times.

Just heard coffee shops and bakeries reopened here on Wednesday. Apparently they've been given the green light behind the scene. Had no idea this had been going on.

I've seldom used my car since 23 March. I have used it for:-

1. Taking goodies to my Mum at a nursing home once a week (had to ensure all stuff are completely sterilised prior to doing so).
2. To drive around, to assess suitability for shopping at supermarket or newsagent, or to get cash out. If they look too busy, I just move on, which includes passing through the local countryside.

For that, the BBC will never be forgotten and a full review with changes can't come quick enough in certain areas. I quote them on virus stuff, but politically I don't trust them. Since the election their presenters have undergone a personality transplant. The sly devils are muted to keep hold of their jobs, but you can sense the frustration in them. They could not stop themselves argueueing with leavers up to the election.

The hard left were in power. We were under dictatorship until the December election finally broke the mold.

There is the hard left BBC/Guardian and the centre right. I am centre right as I am sure a lot round here are. Don't get that confused with the hard right which is Tommy Robinson territory.

In one sense this is really is quite amusing.

During the last election campaign the twittersphere was full of both moderate and hard-left commentators fuming at the BBC and Guardian for their right-wing Tory supporting bias. They reserved particular vitriol for Laura K. for being hard on Jeremy Corbyn and not asking tough questions of the Tories.

In another sense it is deeply dispiriting.

It means there is no room for a publicly supported broadcasting channel because both the increasingly polarised political parties and electorate will firmly believe it is hopelessly biased against them. So the BBC will be doomed whoever is in power- unless of course they dismantle the BBC charter and make it a state broadcasting channel as a vehicle for government propaganda.

Bakeries? I thought they had always been allowed to be open.

This isn't biased. From the referendum to the December election, every day the BBC website published anti Brexit stories which always contained the words could, might, perhaps etc and followed these up on TV. It was every day, well over a thousand days of propoganda. When these stories were found to be untrue, there was nothing, no apology, but these stories had served a purpose because the strategy was if you tell a story enough times, it must be true. When it came to interviews, the BBC could not help themselves argueueing with leavers.

John Humphrey's on his leaving the BBC:

"John Humphrys has lifted the lid on the BBC's "institutional liberal bias" and accused the corporation of being out of touch with the nation in his memoir.

The veteran broadcaster, who retired from Radio 4's Today show two days ago, says bosses "badly failed" to read the public's mood on Brexit and "simply could not grasp" why anybody voted Leave.

In an extract published in The Daily Mail on Saturday, he recalled the morning after the referendum, writing: "Leave had won – and this was not what the BBC had expected. Nor what it wanted.

"No nods and smiles when the big bosses appeared. No attempt to pretend that this was anything other than a disaster."

There you go, from a horses mouth. It was funny to see the BBC presenters faces post December election. Smacked arses, restrained, muted, personality transplants. The BBC tried to influence the public telling them what they should be thinking. As far as I am concerned the quicker they get rid of as many of the unaccepting hard left wing remainers there the better. Being centre right I can acknowledge both sides, but when it comes to the Guardian they are so extreme left wing and unaccepting of the other side, you can never make them see your point of view.

I know I'm a hypocrite etc and I do find Phil G's posts quite amusing but can we keep these purely Brexit posts out of this thread? It's not always easy and HMG's Covid-19 response and Brexit are linked but let us try to stay on topic

I haven’t driven at all since lockdown as I’m working from home and I’m hoping it’s like riding a bike.    My daughter’s using my car to collect her work.  Hubby’s car comes out once a week when we go shopping.  That’s it for us.  However, our son does come to borrow the strimmer and bring it back.
