At 2.15 we had a gust of 70mph in North northumberland, stronger than anything from Ciara. Mean wind reached 60mph. No further rainfall as yet, but radar s hows a bit coming. Like Edinburgh here the wind seems to be worse than the wet at the back end of this storm event.

As I mentioned in an earlier post the A21 Tonbridge bypass is closed for 10 days for repairs, and the traffic diverted through the town is horrendous.  The cut through the lane from south Tonbridge to Leigh is closed because the flood barrier is in operation, next upstream two roads into Penshurst are cut off by floods, and so is Chiddingstone.  To get back from Sevenoaks (normally a 15 minute journey) took me 90 minutes as I went on a great circular trip through Hever, Cowden and Ashurst.

(I realise that these names won't mean anything to people elsewhere in the country, but locals such as WarrenB might be interested.)

I did thr same journey yesterday from Seveoaks but came back early just before they closed the road between Leigh and Haysden so got through. Suspect Tonbridge is holding its breath this morning to see how high the water gets. The barrier is already only 50cm beow its record level and still rising so we shall see.

Doesn't Worcester always get flooded every winter?

The cricket ground is often under water

Yes - but these floods are exceptional. I have never known all the Worcester crossings closed before.

For Worcester itself, this is worse than July 2007. Bewdley was badly affected then, but now Bewdley has flood defences.

The hardest part is removing the old concrete but it is is critical to get down deep. I'm confident the work will last a few years.

The shed has some roof leaks (minor) so once the sun reaches the back garden properly and it dries up I will paint the felt roof with this and save on having to re-felt the shed which would otherwise be a pain

I've used this on the shed ridge and it sticks well but not suitable IMO for Brian's dodgy roof...

What a terrible winter here in Dorset. Wettest I can remember.

The eastern end of Sheppey was indirectly cut off last night by the floods... it seemed runoff from the fields flooded the only road out of here and a van collided with a tree after encountering the flooded road. The police then closed it entirely for a couple of hours.

On the way home today I saw the road was covered in mud and silt, with wide tyre tracks through to the tarmac where cars had been going back and forth during the day. On the way out - it was dark and it was damp, so you couldn't see much. Needless to say I took it slow along there.

I've lived here for 37 years and I've never seen that bit of road flood so badly that silt gets dragged in... it gets a bit puddley (if that's a word), but to be covered in runoff shows there was a LOT of water there yesterday.

We went for a quick visit to Short Ferry this afternoon. The water is high in Barlings Eau/Old River Witham and the adjacent flooded area of Low Barlings. [Ironically right up to the local Environment Agency depot boundary - so they can't ignore it!] You may find the water level data of interest:

Just been watching Midlands Today - river levels in Worcester itself are forecast to peak tomorrow. Already, the levels recorded in July 2007 have been exceeded (although July 2007 was exceptional in itself, being high summer instead of winter).

Sadly, the same part of Wales that was under a red alert for rain is now back under a yellow warning for rain on Wednesday and Thursday.

This winter is fast becoming like the younger cousin of Winter 2014.
