I thought conditions were improving slightly as I said in Current Conditions , but it must have been a short lull. The showers continue with a total now of 12.7mm. Temperature has dropped to 8.1C and the fairly strong and gusty winds continue.

While out with the wolves today, we passed the Beenham pack's enclosure and shortly after we did so there was a loud cracking sound, causing the wolves (and us handlers) to look round. One of the trees in their enclosure had blown over, one which was only 12 years old at that. Luckily it's in the middle, so hasn't caused any problems with allowing a way out!

Oh, there were about 8 spots of rain, too.

Hallelujah!! I can now report that the rain from the back end of Storm Hannah has now finally reached us, and it is now raining as I write. That has happened after what was a mostly sunny afternoon until it then clouded over towards the end of this afternoon.

It has already been commented on this thread that under the current synoptic setup, anywhere would be very lucky to stay completely dry today so on that basis, the fact that our weather remained fine for so much of today under these circumstances is probably really remarkable in itself.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

I was  looking over a potential woodland purchase this morning south of Newbury.  A few  small trees down and couple of pretty hefty gust while we were in  there.  Probably not the smartest idea being in a wood at that time !

Out of interest, what would you have done with the woodland? (I am also looking for land, but open pasture to plant a vineyard).

I must say Hannah has been the driest naked storm I can remember. A day of gales, tight isobars, scuttling clouds, yet scarcely a drop of rain.

Non commercial.  I'm looking for a patch to manage traditionally.   Ideally  mature oak and  hazel  coppice.

The place I looked over today didn't fit the bill.    I suspect it had a  crop of fir  trees taken in the last 20 years.  It was now mainly immature birch and scrub with minimal mature trees. The land was also poorly drained.  Some implanting had occurred, but birch and  scrub had crowded  it.

Bottom line,  huge amount of work required to knock it into shape.

As an aside, I think there is likely to be a "reset" in the price of woods shortly as stricter  rules on log burners come in.   A lot of the adjacent plots to the one I looked at were obviously being used  to supply logs.

We’re staying on the coast near Liverpool this weekend and I can confirm we are certainly feeling the wrath of Hannah!  Strong winds and driving rain all day here!  Not the best day to be visiting The Albert Dock either but avoiding getting blown into the water was comical!

I can confirm. In Cheshire it has been diabolical ALL day. It has been raining for almost 24 hours solid. One of the longest rainfall events I can remember. It just keeps coming.

Awful day here today. The rain and wind has been relentless all day. I can't remember the last time we had such a wet and miserable day

Just been a cold, wet and breezy day here. Nothing particularly unusual or noteworthy, weather-wise.

It beats me why a perfectly normal low pressure system has to be named and called a storm?.

Granted it might have reached the Beaufort definition in some limited areas.

Hype?

Rostherne near Manchester Airport recorded about 33mm from 6am to 6am today. That is very wet for April.
