Out of interest, what would you have done with the woodland? (I am also looking for land, but open pasture to plant a vineyard).
I must say Hannah has been the driest naked storm I can remember. A day of gales, tight isobars, scuttling clouds, yet scarcely a drop of rain.
Non commercial. I'm looking for a patch to manage traditionally. Ideally mature oak and hazel coppice.
The place I looked over today didn't fit the bill. I suspect it had a crop of fir trees taken in the last 20 years. It was now mainly immature birch and scrub with minimal mature trees. The land was also poorly drained. Some implanting had occurred, but birch and scrub had crowded it.
Bottom line, huge amount of work required to knock it into shape.
As an aside, I think there is likely to be a "reset" in the price of woods shortly as stricter rules on log burners come in. A lot of the adjacent plots to the one I looked at were obviously being used to supply logs.
