There's very little in the way of wind just now, but there appears to be a lot of cloud around as the temperatures haven't really dropped by all that much since my last report here.

In what was quite a remarkable day, a total of 3.2 mm of rain fell during yesterday in the end at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and yet despite those really heavy showers which we experienced then, yesterday still somehow, managed to end up being the first completely day of both this month and this spring at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 2.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 1.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning has started off on a cold note with an official air frost being recorded at all three of my local stations.

Unlike on other mornings where this has been the case though, there is no bright and sunny start to today as a result of that this time.

The reason for that is because it has now clouded over and so, this morning has now started off on a dull, overcast, dreary, depressing and soul destroying note with constant grey skies, and with virtually nothing actually happening which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was -0.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 0.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and 0.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Well sleety rain has turned into heavy wet snow in the last 20 minutes. Temp 1.3c and very annoyingly if it had been 15 minutes earlier I would have had a day with snow cover.

Down to -2.2C overnight and negative dew point all morning until the precipitation arrives in the form of a vile icy drizzle

Just beyond a joke. It is just disgusting out there. 3.3C and wind coming from the south, as always, instead of the north which should be bringing cold at this time of year

The earlier wintry mix has moved through and for a brief moment a short while ago, it even brightened up a bit with the odd fleeting glimpse of the Sun.

However, nothing in the way of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon, and there are still some showers around.

As a result of all of that, a total of 2.8 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That isn't very much, but it is enough to mean that today will once again do down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 3.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so today is fairly cold for the time of year though to nothing like the same extent as what we had to endure at this time last year.

Near Wooler the day started with a slight frost quickly clouding over with rising temp and light southerly bringing light rain. At 1030 the wind went round to the west and inevitably strengthened, the temperature leapt up to 3 C and the rain intensified for a time. Now starting to brighten up with temp of 4C.
