In the calm spell we had a minimum of -5.3c at 4am but thereafter freshening winds, cloud and eventually sleet brought about a rapid thaw now around +5c, here in North Northumberland. Chiillingham official met station about 5 miles from here, deeper snow cover, more shelter from westerlies, recorded -12c!

Some wild daffodils have flowered here

That shows how it has warmed up, and just for the record the ones I have seen are in Lower Ham Road, Kingston upon Thames so may be influenced by River Thames

Our winter borefest goes on, as this afternoon has just been a story of constant grey skies and nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather actually happening. This means that today's sunshine total remains unchanged since 12 noon which means that a total of just 18 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm, with that now looking likely to be today's final total.

The wind has now died down a bit, and the temperatures are still at their highest values for today so far.

This means that the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which actually makes today, the mildest day of this month so far at all three of my local stations with much higher temperatures than that still to come over the coming days according to the latest forecasts.

The day has ended on an overcast note and in the end, the really abysmal total of just 18 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Now, I can report that it has just recently started raining here in Edinburgh although there has still been no recorded rainfall during today so far in this part of the world as at 8pm this evening.

Today's maximum temperature was 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Now, the temperatures are refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around  and so, the temperature at 8pm was 4.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 4°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
