Still overcast here in Edinburgh with the temperatures once again, refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around.

In the end, a total of 0.6 mm of rain fell during yesterday at Edinburgh Gogarbank along with 1.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Not only are the temperatures refusing to drop, but they have slowly gone up as the evening has gone on, to the point where they are now above the maximum temperatures which I had already reported for yesterday.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 9.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

I have absolutely no idea now, about what it is going to take to get us out of this permacast hell which has now entered his 5th day.

I was hoping that a bit of wind might have shifted all of that cloud. However, the wind has now picked up to such an extent that it was gusting up to 41.6mph from the WSW at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 9am this morning yet even with that, it is still completely overcast.

It is rather damp outside, but just a measly 0.2 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9am this morning with the botanic gardens in Edinburgh remaining completely dry so far as at that same time, so there is still nothing which is even remotely interesting in terms of our weather, actually happening just now.

To make matters even worse as well, the temperature just kept on going up during the early hours of this morning, thus bringing us back to that absolute nightmare scenario once again of double figures winter temperatures during the hours of darkness.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 9am this morning was 11.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yet another morning that has me searching for a noose. Damp, dull, depressing and stupidly mild at 9.4C. VILE.

At long last, the Sun has finally made its first appearance in these parts for the first time since last Wednesday. There is still a lot of cloud around, but a total of 18 minutes of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon which is enough to end what was becoming a rather long run of completely sunless days at long, long last!!

It it still very windy though with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank gusting up to 49.7mph from the west at 12 noon.

It is still very mild as well though, although the temperatures are now gradually dropping back from that earlier maximum value of 11.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.6°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 10.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.4°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

More gloom, but according to the forecast it should clear overnight from the N.  Here's hoping.

Wind increasingly wild - all schools shut, internal and external ferries cancelled and internal flights cancelled. 16 islands out of the 70 in Orkney effectively cut off for the duration. Winds gusting to Force 12 - not due to calm down until early tomorrow.

Here in Edinburgh, this afternoon has been much brighter than what it has been for quite a long time. In the end though, a total of just half an hour of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank and so this month which had started off on a sunny note in its couple of days, is now running quite a bit duller than average.

It is still very windy as well with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank still gusting up to 37.9mph from the west as at 4pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 8.8°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Windy here too (and getting windier) but not as bad as up north.

Quite a few trees down, power cuts etc.

Has been cloudy but dry all day. However, there is a more maritime-type scent in the air with 9 c under a moderate west breeze.

Mostly clear (I haven't been able to say that for a very long time), but still very windy with the wind gusting up to 39.1mph from the west at Edinburgh Gogarbank at 8pm this evening.

A slight frost has been forecast for tonight but for that to happen, this wind needs to die down, otherwise the temperatures will once again end up refusing to drop, this time because of there being too much wind around.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8pm this evening was 8.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 8°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A bit of sun today but what a price to pay with a horrible gusty northwesterly making it feel cold, but even with clear sky the temp is still 8 c, well above the mean max for this time of year, it could easily be June! - hoping for clear calm frosty conditions in a day or so though I guess the cloud will come back when the wind drops.
