Some remarkable atmospheric effects as I landed at Heathrow from an overnight flight this morning.
The onboard altimeter uses pressure to determine height and recorded us as 250m below sea level when we landed, so skewed was it by the SLP.
And the inversion this morning was spectacular. At 3,800m it was -4C, freezing level was at 2,800m, and by 1,400m it was +4C. In the cloud layer at 1,300m it was -4C. An inversion of 8C in less than 100m. Then 7C at sea level. (All heights adjusted for the skewed readings above).
