So the all time UK record is 1053.6mb. Its currently 1044mb in Tulloch Bridge. I don't think the all time record is really under threat (even though pressure will rise over the next 24 hours) but its the highest pressure I seem to remember in years!

A lot of PWS won't be properly calibrated, but rates of change will be reasonably accurate.
Here it has risen 7.9mb the past 12 hours, 1040.4 at the moment.
7th Feb 2012 was my highest so far in ten years recording - 1044.7mb so not far from that already.
Winter is best time for this record - cold air?

My PWS currently reads a relative pressure of 1042.0mb and rising slowly.

I'm not too sure what the highest pressure I have ever recorded is, off the top of my head? I believe I recorded around 1043mb in an anticyclonic spell towards the end of December 2016, but I might be mistaken.

Up to 1046 now, models seem to be underestimating it. We should hit at least 1048 by tommorow.

Here in Edinburgh, the air pressure at Edinburgh Gogarbank (corrected to MSL) was up to 1044.4mb at 1am this morning, and still rising.

This is obviously quite an incredible area of high pressure which is sitting over us just now and since I first joined TWO back in 2016, I don't recall ever seeing a pressure reading which is as high as that.

Pressure at Edinburgh Gogarbank now up to 1045.5mb as at 6am this morning, although it now appears to have levelled off at that sort of value.

Tulloch bridge is now up to 1047. Could we hit the big fifty?

Highest pressure so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank is 1046.3mb at 9am this morning.

From what I see, it looks as though the actual centre of this area of high pressure is somewhere over central Scotland.

What is interesting as well, is that the latest rain radar shows some showers running onto the east coast of England on an easterly wind just to the south of where this area of high pressure is actually centred.

With that in mind, we probably wouldn't have to move this area of high pressure all that much further north from where it is just now, for us to then be getting some real, winter weather with bitterly cold easterly winds from Siberia and lots of snow.

Some remarkable atmospheric effects as I landed at Heathrow from an overnight flight this morning.

The onboard altimeter uses pressure to determine height and recorded us as 250m below sea level when we landed, so skewed was it by the SLP.

And the inversion this morning was spectacular. At 3,800m it was -4C, freezing level was at 2,800m, and by 1,400m it was +4C. In the cloud layer at 1,300m it was -4C. An inversion of 8C in less than 100m. Then 7C at sea level. (All heights adjusted for the skewed readings above).

Dropped back to 1043.5 from a peak of 1044 here, it's sleeting gently which is hard to believe.

Pressure still over 1040 mb here (currently 1041.7 and wavering around this figure much of the time), yet still managed 0.5mm of drizzle so far since midnight. Currently heavily overcast with dense low clould and damp with 96% RH, which has been the consistent theme since well before Christmas.

My weather station is still reading 1045 but I note that the local Met station has it falling slowly and is now 1043.7

The drought here continues.
