Grim gloomy cold and wet, temp rising steadily all morning to above 4 c, following -3.4 last night.

A rather wet and miserable afternoon here in Edinburgh means that in the end, nothing in the way of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This already makes today our third completely sunless day of both this month and winter which we are not even a week into yet. Furthermore, this means that there has still only been two days in both this month and this winter so far, where there has actually been any recorded sunshine.

There a few signs that the rain is beginning to ease a bit now, but what we have had this afternoon has now taken today's rainfall total so far as at 4pm this afternoon to 3.4 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 4.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now go down as an official rain day at both of those stations.

However, the temperatures have been rising very slowly as the day goes on, and are still continuing to do so as I write. This means that the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was now up to 4.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and 5.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which for all three of my local stations, now makes it slightly milder than what it was at this time yesterday.

The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.

The rain from earlier on has cleared away now, but today's total so far as at 8pm this evening has now gone up to 4.2 mm at Edinburgh Gogarbank and 5.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

That has left it rather overcast, rather damp and very misty. As the milder air kicks in as well, the temperatures are not only refusing to drop as a result of there being too much cloud around, but they still as I write haven't yet stopped going up from first thing this morning.

This means that the temperature at 8pm this evening was now up to 6.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 7.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so it's now a lot milder than what it was at this time last night.
