I'm sure that even richardabn won't have any complaints about that apart from complaining that the temperature wasn't far enough below freezing for him (although knowing Richard of course, I wouldn't put it past him to do so).

Here in Edinburgh, we also have a very cold and frosty start to today with an official air frost at all three of my local stations. However, it has now clouded over ahead of that next weather system and given the latest forecasts, it wouldn't surprise me one bit if we saw absolutely nothing of the Sun in this part of the world today.

So far, the temperature has reached a minimum value of -2.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank and -4°C at Edinburgh Airport, with the temperature at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh still dropping as I write.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was -1.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, -1°C at Edinburgh Airport and -1.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (which is the same as the overnight minimum temperature there so far).

So much colder, brighter and more seasonable since the rotten easterlies departed. Good riddance!

For that reason, I was hoping that the snow reports thread which I recently started here would finally start to get some activity. I also have a snow radar map on my old tablet but unfortunately, this shows that it is just plain old rain which is heading in this direction except for on the very tops of the very highest hills.

This is despite the fact that the temperature at 9am this morning was still down at -0.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 0°C at Edinburgh Airport and -0.8°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which does make me wonder what on earth, it will take for us to actually get some snow in this part of the world when we can't even get that when the temperature is below freezing.

It's all to do with the air aloft. Warmer air is above us streaming in from the SW with residual cold air trapped at the surface and in my frost hollow!

A bit of a comedown on this time yesterday, which is to be expected at this time of the year but what I find depressing is having lights on indoors at noon time to lift the gloom.
