Had to laugh watching Carol Kirkwood this morning at Blenheim Palace. It was beautiful. Very serene and sunny with the lake like a mirror.

Here it's blowing a hooley as it has done for 3 days with rain in the wind. In western Scotland the worst rain since Hurricane Desmond is causing flooding and landslides. Wonder why Carole wasn't in Scotland this morning 😂

There are a few hints of brightness this morning, but it is still mostly cloudy with the wind still gusting up to 42.3mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

There has also been a little bit of rain here at times, although a total of just 0.6 mm of rain has fallen during today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning, along with just 0.4 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

What is remarkable as well, is the manner which we keep on getting just very small rainfall totals even though there has been a massive wall of rain on the radar maps just to the west of here and very close by for the last few days. As Jerry has said, this is causing a lot of problems in the west of Scotland whereas there are parts of the east of Scotland which have been in near drought conditions for quite a while now, which could therefore really do with getting some much needed rainfall now, and which still isn't getting that rainfall which is badly needed there. On that note, I don't recall ever seeing such a vast contrast in fortunes over such a short distance when it comes to rainfall.

However, it is very mild yet again, and the temperature at 8am this morning was 13.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

There is some brightness around at times, but just 42 minutes of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon as it is still mostly cloudy as usual.

There was a bit of rain around earlier on, but this has now died away and in any case, a total of 1.0 mm of rain has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh (where today will now go down as the third official rain day in a row as a result) as at 12 noon, along with just 0.6 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh (which still hasn't had an official rain day since the very first day of this month).

Once again, it remains very windy with maximum wind gusts of up to 46.0mph from the SW at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

This morning's minimum temperature was 13.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 14.9°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 16.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

According to the the official forecasts, the southern half of Scotland was supposed to brighten up during the latter part of this afternoon as a precursor to tomorrow's brief period of Indian Summer conditions.

However, that hasn't yet happened here, and I'm still not seeing any signs of that either as we remain in yet another boring grey and overcast nothingness with yet more constant grey skies which have resulted in a total of just 54 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

It is also still very windy with the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank still gusting up to 36.7mph from the SW as at 4pm this afternoon.

Today's maximum temperature so far was 15.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 17.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 14.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 14°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today is ending on a rather cloudy note yet again and in the end, the rather dismal total of just 54 minutes of sunshine was recorded for the whole of today at Edinburgh Gogarbank with nothing at all in that department since 1pm this afternoon, despite those forecasts for it to brighten up towards the end of the day.

It's not quite as windy as it was earlier on but even at that, the wind at Edinburgh Gogarbank was still gusting up to 31.1mph from the SSW as at 8pm this evening.

Just like the last couple of nights, the temperatures are once again refusing to drop and so the temperature at 8pm this evening was 14.7°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport (where the temperature is still no lower that today's earlier reported maximum) and 15.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
