Yesterday started off on a cloudy note, but the Sun soon came through with a total of 7.4 hours of sunshine being recorded for yesterday in the end, at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes yesterday the third sunniest day of both this month and this autumn so far.

Prior to that, the overnight minimum temperature was 7.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 7°C at Edinburgh Airport and 8.2°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Yesterday's maximum temperature was 13.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

At the moment, there is some cloud around, but it is calm and very cold for this time of year.

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 6.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 5°C at Edinburgh Airport and just 4.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

4.9C, clear skies.

Very cold night for the time of year. Can't even remember the last time we had a night this cold - probably sometime in April.

The day of the Autumn Equinox (which is also the first day of the astronomical autumn) has started off on a bright and sunny note which is something which we haven't seen an awful lot of during recent months. Indeed, this has already resulted in 18 minutes of sunshine being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

There will then be more darkness than daylight on any given day from Tuesday (the day of the Equilux) onwards and since daylight length is still shortening very rapidly, it won't be long now before it is no longer possible to have any recorded sunshine before 8am.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 3.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 2°C at Edinburgh Airport and 2.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it has clearly been a very cold night for this time of year. Indeed, this makes last night, the coldest night of the season so far at all three of my local stations and at this rate, it won't be too much longer now before we then go on to record our first official air frost of the season at at least one of my local stations.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 4.4°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 3°C at Edinburgh Airport and 4.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Beautiful and sunny here, though still a bit chilly. Off to watch my son play football soon and the conditions are (thankfully) completely different to how they were forecast only a few days ago.

Moister than an oyster's posing pouch. Dull with persistent moderate rain (14 mm so far this morning) and the brisk north breeze is making the current 11.6 C feel quite bleak.

However, going by the radars, it does look like it may well clear away sooner than forecast so perhaps I may get to see the sun later on today.

The Sun is still shining here in Edinburgh with a total of 4.1 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

Despite all of that sunshine though, it doesn't fell all that warm out there and the temperature at 12 noon was just 11.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and 12.3°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Here in Edinburgh, it has been a fairly decent day overall and once again, the temperatures have recovered to something which is quite reasonable for this time of year. There has been more more in the way of cloud around during this afternoon with even the odd very brief passing shower, but that hasn't been enough to spoil things in any way and a total of 6.8 hours of sunshine has still been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 4pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 4pm this afternoon was 13.3°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 13°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.7°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so it's actually warmer up here in Scotland (at least IMBY just now) than what is being reported on this thread in the south of England, which is not something which we would generally expect to see happening.
