After what wasn't too bad a day for the biggest part of it, we then entered into a rather miserable evening with quite a bit of heavy and at times, torrential rain which went on for quite a while. Once that eventually cleared away though, the Sun then came out to leave a clear end to the day.
The end result of this is that in the end, a total of 8.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes today, the second sunniest day of this month so far and the sunniest day which we've had since 9 August which is a couple of weeks ago. It was also just as well that I decided not to bring forward this post by an hour until the beginning of September since 6 minutes of today's sunshine total did come after 8pm, although this is now unlikely to be possible for much longer.
This evening's heavy rain did eventually reach the vicinity of Edinburgh Gogarbank and so, this has resulted in a total of 1.8 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm this evening, along with 3.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now, go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.
Today's maximum temperature was 15.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For all three of these stations, that is very poor once again for time of year, although today was slightly warmer than yesterday.
However, the temperature has dropped by quite a lot during the last hour or so, and it is actually rather chilly now. With that in mind, the temperature at 9pm this evening was now down to 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and just 9.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
