13c - feels cold out there because of the light NW ly wind! - So lovely to have some cool fresh Atlantic air coming into the house for first time in 2 months! Love it! 🙂 Here in the south esp during the past week we have been between stuck at +17 and +20c by night time! First time it's dropped below 15c in a week. - The average nighttime summer temp min is around or just under 16c so very mild/muggy indeed.

Will do my summer stats soon.

For once, we actually have a nice, bright and sunny morning which only rarely ever happens here these days. The end result of this is that a total of half an hour of sunshine has been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning.

However, the mornings are now drawing in and the fact that the sunshine total is so low for such a sunny morning shows that up really nicely now. What this is showing that we are not likely to get any more recorded sunshine now before 7am on any given day before the end of this year.

With the current rate at which the mornings are now drawing in, it is unlikely to be all that long before it becomes no longer possible to get any recorded sunshine before 8am either and when that happens, I really will be in my winter mode when it comes to reporting these things.

In addition to that, there are a few clouds which are beginning to build up as I write, so it is still by no means guaranteed that we will get any sort of decent sunshine total for today.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.5°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 9°C at Edinburgh Airport and 10.0°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, so last night was cooler than what it has been for quite a while.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 10.6°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10°C at Edinburgh Airport and 11.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

This morning brought a bit of cloud at times, but also plenty of sunshine with a total of 4.1 hours of sunshine having now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon. However, the first of today's showers have now just arrived, which has now spoiled things somewhat as it is now raining here in Edinburgh as I write.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was 14.2°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 14.9°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Most of this afternoon has seen a continuation of the theme of some cloud around, but also some decent sunny spells with a total of 6.9 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

Meanwhile, the shower of rain which we had at lunchtime resulted in just 0.2 mm of rain being recorded at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh, but nothing at all at Edinburgh Gogarbank which is where all of the action needs to be happening if this month is to be going down as anything other than drier than average there overall.

In the last wee while, we have had quite a heavy shower which has just come down from the north, and it looks as though this one will probably result in a bigger total at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh than the one which we had at lunchtime.

However, the botanic gardens in Edinburgh are already going to be wetter than average during this month regardless of what happens from now on, so we don't need any more rain there for just now. This further adds to the fact that is really Edinburgh Gogarbank which needs to be getting that rain now and yet, the latest radar map shows that this shower of rain appears to be going nowhere near there, which is therefore likely to result in nothing being recorded there in the way of rainfall yet again.

I can also add that although today has been disappointingly cool for this time of year once again, it appears as though the forecasts have actually been over-pessimistic with their predictions for today's maximum temperatures in this part of the world. In fact, today has actually been slightly warmer than yesterday and so, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 15.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

After what wasn't too bad a day for the biggest part of it, we then entered into a rather miserable evening with quite a bit of heavy and at times, torrential rain which went on for quite a while. Once that eventually cleared away though, the Sun then came out to leave a clear end to the day.

The end result of this is that in the end, a total of 8.6 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank. This makes today, the second sunniest day of this month so far and the sunniest day which we've had since 9 August which is a couple of weeks ago. It was also just as well that I decided not to bring forward this post by an hour until the beginning of September since 6 minutes of today's sunshine total did come after 8pm, although this is now unlikely to be possible for much longer.

This evening's heavy rain did eventually reach the vicinity of Edinburgh Gogarbank and so, this has resulted in a total of 1.8 mm of rain being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 9pm this evening, along with 3.8 mm at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. This means that today will now, go down as yet another official rain day at both of those stations.

Today's maximum temperature was 15.0°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 15°C at Edinburgh Airport and 15.5°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. For all three of these stations, that is very poor once again for time of year, although today was slightly warmer than yesterday.

However, the temperature has dropped by quite a lot during the last hour or so, and it is actually rather chilly now. With that in mind, the temperature at 9pm this evening was now down to 10.1°C at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11°C at Edinburgh Airport and just 9.1°C at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
