We have now lost those winds from the NE which had been around for the last few days. Yet even with that, it seems as though it is still asking too much for us to get a clear night these days as it is cloudy yet again.

At the same time, it also quite a warm and sticky night.

Surprisingly clear and heatwaveish feeling this morning. I was expecting lots of cloud and a struggle up to 27C. Assuming the cloud will come later.

Here in Edinburgh, we didn't get enough rain during yesterday to properly help out those parched grasslands and gardens, but we are back to almost unbroken sunshine today so far this morning anyway as the overnight cloud cover has broken up.

There is some high level cirrus cloud around and a few fair weather clouds have built up during the course of this morning, but that hasn't prevented a total of 4.1 hours of sunshine from being recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10am this morning.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 9.9ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 11ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 11.7ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

However, the temperatures have responded nicely to that sunshine and at 10am this morning, the temperature was already up at 19.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 20ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.6ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so that it is already warmer than what it was yesterday.

Fine with unbroken sunshine.

A very comfortable 20.2 C & 74% H under a gentle east breeze.

However, it's been so dry for so long that I'm now getting £2 a month from Red Cross.

Clouded over here - convective infill. Still bright though, and warmish - 26C.

I notice it’s 24C in Aberdeen. Not heard from Richard for a while, which is surprising as I think they went 4 days with zero sunshine earlier this week.

Anyway, there is a lot more cloud around here now due to some convective infill, although the Sun is still getting through at times. Nevertheless, that is having a more limiting effect on the amount of sunshine which we're getting now so that a total of just 5.5 hours of sunshine has now been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 1pm this afternoon.

However, it is still very warm here and the temperature at 1pm this afternoon was 22.0ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 23ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 23.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Today has ended up being yet another glorious day with normal service for this month (and indeed this summer, but without those easterly winds) being resumed once again.

If anything, the clouds have broken up even further during the course of this afternoon which has allowed us to see more in the sunshine although we are now seeing more in the way of high cloud ahead of that big weather system to our NW which is associated with the remnants of Hurricane Chris.

So far though, a total of 8.3 hours of sunshine has been recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 5pm this afternoon.

The wind has picked up a little bit but in the absence of any on-shore breezes, it has become very warm and the temperatures haven't yet peaked for today as I write.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 5pm this afternoon was 24.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 25ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which makes today, the warmest day of this month so far at all three of my local stations.

At the end of yet another glorious summer's day (unless like me, you are really desperate now to see some rain for the gardens), a total of 10.9 hours of sunshine was recorded for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank.

Today's maximum temperature was 24.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 25ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

Even as late as 10pm tonight, the temperature was still up around the 19ºC mark here in Edinburgh so, it's just too warm for me just now. I am sweating profusely because of these warm conditions and all I can see ahead as a result, is a rather uncomfortable night for trying to sleep.

Still very warm here - nearest station LCY is warmest at 11pm at 23C. Despite being still and clear.

And given recent absences it’s also worth noting it was 20C at 11pm in Aberdeen.
