Here in Edinburgh, we have just had a massive drop in the temperature of over 6ºC in the last hour as the wind has suddenly swung around to the NE and started to bring in cooler air from in off of North Sea (in other words, those dreaded easterlies from before, appear to be back).
There are no actual weather fronts around which I know of, but this is the sort of massive drop in temperature which we would normally only see when there is a cold front moving through with an associated band of heavy and possibly, torrential rain and of course, there is nothing like that around.
Thanks to that thin high cloud which is still around, we have lost another 6 minutes from our sunshine total during the last hour so as at 7pm this evening, a total of 13.7 hours of sunshine had been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank with our chances of seeing today being our sunniest day of the year so far now looking really shaky, especially as there is now a growing risk that this wind from off the North Sea could bring in some low cloud and haar which really would kill those chances off altogether if that happened.
Today's maximum temperature was 25.4ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 25ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 25.9ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which at least, means that today will go down as the warmest day of the year so far at all three of my local stations.
As at 7pm this evening though, the temperature has now dropped very sharply to 18.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 17ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
The north of Edinburgh, usually always missing out on snow events which occur not just within the rest of Scotland or the UK, but also within the rest of Edinburgh.
