After such a fantastic day's weather which we had yesterday, let's hope that we can go on to see more of the same today.

In the meantime, it is dry and clear with not a single cloud to be seen (even the noctilucent clouds from a day ago are not there this time).

Meanwhile, the temperature at midnight was 12.8ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 12ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 13.4ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so the temperatures have already dropped by quite a lot since earlier on under those clear skies.

Clear and calm here, 12 C @ 74% RH and pressure steady @ 1025mb/hpa. Loving these warm days and cool nights - sleeping not a problem - especially with the relatively low humidities

Our fantastic spell of summer weather goes on as today has started off on another completely sunny note. The temperatures are already responding nicely to that sunshine as well.

I will give my usual report for my three local stations when the data for 8am this morning comes through. The purpose of this additional extra post is just to say that so far, the warmest spot which is closest to where I live is in the town of Penicuik in Midlothian which is situated about 10 miles to the south of Edinburgh city centre and where, the temperature was already up at 19.8ºC at 6:45am this morning.

This already shows that we are clearly in for a very warm day today and according to the this morning's BBC Scotland forecast from Judith Ralston, the temperature could end up reaching 26ºC in this part of the world today which is bordering on being quite hot.

What a surprise. It's Monday and the weather is vastly superior to any point over the mediocre weekend.

It's glorious. Blue skies and 18.9C already. The last thing place you want to be in these splendid condition is stuck indoors.

No doubt the sea breeze will have set in by 5pm.

Following on from my last post, I can report that a total of 2.9 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 8am this morning. I think I said last night that yesterday's total would be hard to beat during the rest of this year.

As it turns out though, Edinburgh Gogarbank was not actually officially the sunniest place in Edinburgh during yesterday. From the data which I have been able to get, that accolade actually goes to Jerry from Morningside's local station at Swanton (since it's been a wee while since Jerry last posted anything here, I hope that he is keeping OK and enjoying all of this lovely weather) where a total of 16.95 hours of sunshine were recorded during yesterday which also made yesterday, that station's sunniest day of the year.

In addition to that, I don't yet know what yesterday's sunshine total was at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh which was the warmest place in Edinburgh during yesterday out of the major stations (yesterday's maximum temperature at Swanston was 22.4ºC according to that station's own website which is in line with what it was at Edinburgh Gogarbank).

So far, the latest total for today at Edinburgh Gogarbank is more than yesterday's total at the same time and I believe that this was probably due to some high cloud which was still around at just after sunrise during yesterday which would have been enough to slightly limit the amount of recorded sunshine during that first hour after dawn.

That high cloud isn't there this morning and so if the rest of today is completely sunny from now on with the same amount of sunshine as what we had yesterday, yesterday's total which made that day the sunniest day of the year so far, will be beaten. In order for that to happen though, we can't afford to lose more than 18 minutes of available recorded sunshine during the rest of today due to cloud cover.

Last night's overnight minimum temperature was 10.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 10ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 11.2ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh so despite Helen Willetts telling us on yesterday's BBC Week Ahead forecast that last night would be quite a chilly one, that wasn't actually the case and it ended up instead, being slightly milder than of late.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 8am this morning was 16.7ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 16ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 17.5ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.

A clear blue sky here.

Temp 20.2C

Not weather related but an odd sight. Looking at the clear sky this morning saw three aircraft flying at high altitude leaving vapour trails and all on exactly the same heading (ESE) perhaps 5 miles apart. By the size of the vapour trails they looked like 4 engined aircraft. Never seen anything quite like that before.

I ventured out for a while a short time ago, and it felt absolutely roasting out there (at least for this part of the world, anyway). In fact, it is so warm out there now that I can't even wear my thin summer jacket outside just now without feeling too hot.

The Sun is continuing to blaze down from an azure blue sky with 4.9 hours of sunshine having already been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 10am this morning.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 10am this morning was already up to 19.5ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 19ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 20.5ºC at the botanic gardens and that is quite a bit warmer than what it was at this time even yesterday.

A smashing morning with near unbroken sunshine (just the odd bits of flat cumulus). And best of all, being comfortably warm with a sensible 19.4 C & 70% H under an onshore east breeze.

I can live with this, it suits me just fine.

The Sun continues to shine here in Edinburgh with 6.9 hours of sunshine having been recorded for today so far at Edinburgh Gogarbank as at 12 noon.

I can confirm as well, that a total 15.7 hours of sunshine was recorded for yesterday in the end at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh. That makes yesterday the sunniest day of the year there so far, but that total is less than yesterday's total for Edinburgh Gogarbank which confirms that it was indeed, Swanston weather station which was yesterday's sunniest place in Edinburgh with a total of 16.95 hours of sunshine.

Neverthless, only a further 15.2 hours or more of sunshine were needed as at the end of yesterday between then and the end of this month in order for this month to then go down as being sunnier than average overall at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh and that is likely to be clinched today, going by what today's weather has been like.

Meanwhile, the temperature at 12 noon was already up at 22.2ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank, 22ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 23.3ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh where today will now, go down as the warmest day of the year so far as a result since the latest temperature there at 12 noon has already beaten yesterday's maximum temperature for that station which at that time, had made yesterday the warmest day of the year there so far.

I can confirm that today will now go down as the hottest day of 2018 so far at all three of my local stations as the temperature at 2pm this afternoon was 24.1ºC at Edinburgh Gogarbank where 8.9 hours of sunshine have been recorded for today so far as at that same time, 24ºC at Edinburgh Airport and 24.8ºC at the botanic gardens in Edinburgh.
