I wouldn't say that the last warm spell a fortnight ago was purely confined to England. OK it didn't get to the high 20s here as happened in London but Saturday 21st April was a glorious day here, and easily our warmest day this year thus far.

The thinking yesterday was that the trailing cold front, although weak, would drift down into the central belt on Sunday and spoil the party. As you say, maybe that won't happen now and Edinburgh will have a bright weekend with 18 or 19 C which is perfectly acceptable.

Model output across the board is showing clear skies for the entire 72 hours of the bank holiday weekend over the SE.

The weatheronline automated forecast shows London sunshine hours as 15.1, 15.1 and 15.2. That is incredible and surely unprecedented for a bank holiday weekend.

Roller-coaster stuff from both GFS and ECM, right out to the end of the run. Low pressure sticking in mid-Atlantic, sometimes a bit closer so cold and breezy (esp in the NW),sometimes a bit further off and pumping up warm air from the Azores

GFS keeps the roller coaster going, but ECM now stuck in a rather cool scenario for 5-10 days' time

Yes a disappointing ECM Op but the mean is much better in fact its very different.  So maybe a case of the Op going off on one or maybe the ensembles are playing catch up.

A very settled mean at day 9.

12z GEM shows an improving picture through next weekend and into the following week as high pressure makes a quick return

Sure does, a mean trough down here means a good chance of some cloud and/or rain. I'm not sure that's what you meant though.

Incidentally, it's remarkable just how limpet-like high pressure has been to Scandinavia since February. That's coming up to 3 months now!

I think that's a pretty fair assessment judging by the day 8 ECM mean this morning high pressure edging in. no heatwave but pleasant enough with temps prob just above average.
