That's more like it. As opposed to reports of a couple of random flakes coming down ten minutes apart.

I have to wonder what conditions would have been under a similar northerly whilst Fram was full ( and extended to NW Iceland), Barentsz still held ice 3 stories high (and similar in Kara) with the extension of the NAD 50ft down in the water column ( and not at the surface ).

Such cold over the warmth of the North Sea would have near guaranteed a nice polar low running down it and burying the eastern side of the UK!

I wonder what they were like during the MWP/RWP. 😉

Guaranteed

It's November, a Northerly with temperatures barely above freezing and drifting snow blocking roads in minutes.
Wrong sort of cold obviously

Yes, its been a poor show.  Text book northerly, strong winds.  Mr. "denial" four is up in his high altitude  fastness of the NYM.

Meanwhile mere mortals in the flatlands of East Anglia have watched as flake after flake melted as conditions were the wrong side of marginal.  Also - plenty of reports of rain from places away from the north east quadrant.  As I said, disappointing for many given the "at a glance" synoptics, which would have proven  to supply much richer pickings over a much wider swathe in decades gone by.

There was snow lying on the beach at Scarborough.
We are only at 600 feet.
And it's November not January.
So fake cold and snow making machines.

It's even  on the *denier* BBC website.
Perhaps not Guardian though.

"The showers are being driven southward by a 010° 2,000 foot gradient wind, while the surface flow remains backed at around 330°. This means the surface wind is off the land rather than the sea across North Yorkshire, which is keeping the surface temperature down and allowing snow to fall and settle right down to sea level, judging by the latest shots of Scarborough on the BBC TV news."

An explanation and report of the event (from a fine weather blog actually - you might be surprised about views offered there) and a comment on the thread title.

What are you on about?

Btw, I like the video and I hope to see such events on Dartmoor again sometime.

I'm struggling to work out why this thread has been poked in the photography forum.

I think you'll find, Bertie, that whenever there is a slight chance of AGW being linked to any weather event 4wd will be there denying any possible link with a warming planet and kicking up a stink about how the AGW folk grab at any weather event to prove their case.........

Check out this years Hurricane thread!

Second longer video just to annoy the various politically inspired whingers.
All the white stuff is not caused by north wind being cold obviously, because northerlies are no longer cold like they were in days of yore.
Odd sound in first half is gopro case rattle.

Because there isn't a video forum I guess.
Besides I wanted to tease the trolls, it's boring being snowed in.

To be fair, there has been snow in low lying coastal locations such as Scarborough, Newcastle and Hull.

Almost three hours of snow here, sometimes intermittent but sometimes quite heavy. Currently up to 2 cm on some surfaces and a covering everywhere. Admittedly we have some elevation here but it's still quite impressive for late November.
